"Light it Blue" Calls on Mayors Across Nation to Support Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Blue Cure Leads the Charge to Add Visibility to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
HOUSTON, Sept. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This September, buildings across the nation are lit blue to support Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. By increasing the visibility of the "Light it Blue" campaign, Blue Cure Foundation is working to start conversations early on with young men on prevention through healthy lifestyle choices, and honor the 2.9 million American survivors.
Blue Cure respectfully calls on the mayors of America's major cities to light a city landmark blue for an evening in the remainder of the month, including New York's Mayor Bill de Blasio; Los Angeles' Mayor Eric Garcetti; Chicago's Mayor Rahm Emanuel; Philadelphia's Mayor Michael Nutter; Phoenix's Mayor Greg Stanton; San Antonio's Mayor Ivy R. Taylor; San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; Dallas' Mayor Mike Rawlings; and San Jose, CA's Mayor Sam Liccardo.
Blue Cure founder Gabe Canales (diagnosed with prostate cancer at 35) says, "This simple act can have a powerful ripple effect throughout communities across our nation. One in seven American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. We have an awesome opportunity to reach out to our brothers, sons, grandfathers, dads, husbands and friends this month," says Canales.
Look for #Lightitblue buildings this month – in Houston, TX at City Hall, University of St. Thomas and Baylor College of Medicine; in Boston, MA at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; in Raleigh, NC at the Wells Fargo Duke Energy Center; in Seattle, WA at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance complex (including Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and UW Medicine); in Goodyear, AZ at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America - Western Regional Medical Center and in Mineola, NY at the Long Island Cancer Center at Winthrop University Hospital.
