MALIBU, Calif., Aug. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/-- LG SIGNATURE, the ultra-premium home entertainment and home appliance brand from LG Electronics, hosted an oceanfront panel discussion in Malibu, California, on the home design and smart appliances topic. Notable experts in the field participated in the panel event, including HGTV host Carter Oosterhouse, star of Bravo TV's "Million Dollar Listing LA", Madison Hildebrand, and host of HGTV's upcoming series "House to Home," Jasmine Roth. The conversation was moderated by Dana Dickey, Los Angeles-based editor at PureWow, a digital lifestyle publication for affluent females.
The discussion opened with each panelist's definition of smart appliances, and led into data gleaned from LG SIGNATURE's latest proprietary survey which focuses on consumer attitudes and behaviors as they relate to luxury design and innovation, and how the combination can positively impact the value of a home.
"As a real estate agent it's my job to know all things luxury and what an appliance's cost-benefit is," said Hildebrand. And when referring to LG's ultra-premium line, added, "the value does come with these appliances."
In addition to investment value, the panel spoke to the line's sleek design, simplicity, and efficiency – aspects not often associated with today's tech-forward appliances.
"TVs are the one thing we always do on makeover shows…and the [LG SIGNATURE OLED TV W] is brilliant. I know how that goes on the wall and I'm still a little dumbfounded by it," said Oosterhouse. "When consumers can spend a little bit more money on simplicity, that's great thing; it makes their day shorter and easier and they don't have to spend more time washing dishes or hanging a flat screen TV."
The conversation went on to reveal surprising insights including:
- The willingness to spend more on luxury appliances in order to make a statement decreases with age. Millennials (20 - 34 year olds) are more than twice as likely to own smart appliances in their homes than 45 - 55 year olds (84 percent vs. 40 percent, respectively)
- Men were much more likely than women to spend on luxury appliances in order to make a statement about their home and themselves (83 percent vs. 63 percent, respectively)
- The appliance consumers purchased most in the last 24 months was a refrigerator (52 percent) and of those, 63 percent opted for a standalone
"This event is a direct reflection of LG SIGNATURE's unwavering commitment to uncovering the latest trends in the luxury appliance market, ensuring we consistently deliver the best products and a state-of-the-art living experience that feels pure, sophisticated and luxurious for our discerning customers," said David VanderWaal, LG's U.S. marketing vice president. "It was a true honor to host some of the country's most cutting edge real estate, home decor, design and tech figures at our panel discussion."
During the exclusive event, guests were given the opportunity to interact with the ultra-luxe LG SIGNATURE home appliances which include an air purifier, OLED TV W, electric double oven slide-in range, top control dishwasher and an InstaView™ Door-in-Door® refrigerator. Each thoughtfully designed product is enabled with the cutting-edge SmartThinQ technology, so consumers are able to control them with smartphones and via Google Home and Alexa.
As guests strolled through the oceanside home, LG SIGNATURE brand ambassadors demonstrated how to use the state-of-the-art appliances, including the TV's ability to attach directly to the wall, the refrigerator's sleek mirrored glass panel that illuminates with two quick knocks, and the electric oven's double dimensions offering the brand's largest capacity available.

About Survey:
Research findings are based on a survey conducted by Morar Consulting fielded across the US between August 18th –20th, 2017. For this survey, 769 respondents were asked about their views regarding innovation, smart technology, home design and decor. The study targeted respondents with annual household income of $100,000 and above. Respondents are recruited through a number of different mechanisms, via different sources to join the panels and participate in market research surveys. All panelists have passed a double opt-in process and complete on average 300 profiling data points prior to taking part in surveys. Respondents are invited to take part via email and are provided with a small monetary incentive for doing so. Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. In this particular study, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.5% percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
