Let's Save Lives: The Rory Staunton Foundation To Host Second National Forum On Sepsis
NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
What: The Rory Staunton Foundation, the leading organization for sepsis prevention, will host their Second National Forum on Sepsis as part of Sepsis Awareness Month. The Rory Staunton Foundation was founded by Ciaran and Orlaith Staunton of Queens, N.Y. It was established in honor of their son, Rory Staunton, who died at age 12 from sepsis in 2012.
Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming and life-threatening response to infection. It occurs when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection trigger inflammation that can damage multiple organ systems, causing them to fail. Although preventable and treatable, sepsis kills more than 250,000 Americans each year -- more people than breast cancer, prostate cancer and AIDS, combined.
The Forum will bring together leaders from the government, nonprofit, and healthcare sectors to discuss actions being taken to tackle this public health crisis and to launch new initiatives in the fight against sepsis.
When: Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. ET
Where: Top of the Hill, 1 Constitution Ave NE, Washington, D.C., 20001
Who:
Ciaran and Orlaith Staunton, Co-founders, The Rory Staunton Foundation.
