Legg Mason Announces Appointments to Executive Committee
BALTIMORE, May 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Legg Mason, Inc., (NYSE: LM) today announced the appointment of three executives to its Executive Committee, each in roles that reflect the organization's continuing evolution and ongoing commitment to expand choice for clients and partners globally. The appointments are effective June 1 and will bring the total number of executive committee positions to nine.
Legg Mason announced the following appointments to the Executive Committee:
- Frances (Fran) Cashman, named Global Head of Communications and Engagement, with responsibility for communications, marketing, digital experience and brand, ensuring that the firm's strategic initiatives are communicated clearly across all of its constituencies. Ms. Cashman was previously the Co-Head of US Sales and has led the firm's diversity initiatives since 2015.
- John Kenney, named Global Head of Affiliate Strategic Initiatives, a role that he has held since 2015. In keeping with best corporate governance practices, Mr. Kenney serves on the Boards of each of Legg Mason's nine investment affiliates, along with senior executives at Legg Mason and each affiliate. The Global Affiliate Strategic Initiatives role has been elevated to an executive position to ensure that the investment affiliates' points of view are well represented within the Legg Mason executive team.
- Patricia (Patty) Lattin, named Chief Human Resources Officer, a role she has held since 2009. The Global Human Resources Role has also been elevated to an executive role, underscoring the importance of finding and supporting the appropriate talent to execute the firm's strategy. As part of this role, she will also lead the firm's efforts in Corporate Social Responsibility and Philanthropy.
Legg Mason also announced that, in conjunction with these appointments, it has named Jeff Masom as head of U.S. Sales, with responsibility for National Accounts and US Retail Sales, reporting to Terry Johnson, Head of Global Distribution.

Background of Fran Cashman
Fran Cashman is Global Head of Communications and Engagement, with responsibility for communications, marketing, digital experience and brand.
Previously, she was Senior Managing Director and Co-Head of US Sales for Legg Mason. In this role, she was responsible for US Sales and the strategic efforts of the US Retail Sales Teams focused on the distribution of Legg Mason's broad array of investment solutions to wirehouse, regional and independent financial advisors nationally.
Ms. Cashman also serves as Chair of Legg Mason's Executive Diversity Council, Co-Managing Director for Legg Mason Investor Services (LMIS) and has been a member of the Looking Outward initiative, Branding Engagement Committee and 401k Committee.
Previously, Ms. Cashman was in sales management positions at Legg Mason as well as one of its affiliates. Prior to returning to Legg Mason in 2010, Ms. Cashman was Managing Director and a senior institutional sales manager for Stifel Nicolaus. She held a similar position with Legg Mason, having started there in 1995. Ms. Cashman's 30 year financial services background also includes expertise developed at regional banks in both derivatives and cash management.
Ms. Cashman completed The Wharton's Securities Industry Institute. She graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Industrial Management.
Ms. Cashman serves on the Georgia Tech Advisory Board to the President, the Catholic Community Foundation Board, the Loyola Blakefield Board of Trustees and is active with St. Ignatius Loyola Academy.
Background of John Kenney
John D. Kenney is Global Head of Affiliate Strategic Initiatives, working with Legg Mason's Executive Committee, Investment Affiliates and Business Development teams. In this role, he reports to the CEO of Legg Mason, and collaborates with the Executive Management team of each Affiliate on corporate governance practices while also ensuring that each Affiliate has an advocate within the broader Legg Mason organization. The Affiliate Strategic Initiatives team provides ongoing strategic support, consults on business development and operating issues, and integrates new Affiliates.
Mr. Kenney initially joined Legg Mason in 2002. Prior to his current role, he was a Managing Director in Legg Mason's Corporate Strategy and Business Development Group, and was formerly the CEO and Head of Legg Mason Global Asset Allocation (LMGAA).
Mr. Kenney has 23 years of investment management and capital markets experience, including broad-based expertise in the fixed income capital markets. He was previously employed at Legg Mason as Managing Director, Co-National Sales Manager of the Legg Mason Fixed Income Capital Markets Group, the capital markets business sold by Legg Mason in 2005. Other previous roles include senior positions at regional investment banking firms in institutional fixed income sales, sales management, trading, and trading management.
Mr. Kenney is a member of the Board of Directors of each of the Legg Mason investment advisory Affiliates, is a member of Legg Mason's Capital Committee, and is an officer of the Legg Mason Charitable Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Baltimore School for the Arts.
Mr. Kenney is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
Background of Patty Lattin
Patty Lattin is Chief Human Resources Officer. With over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, Ms. Lattin has held the position of Head of Global Human Resources at Legg Mason since 2009 and in 2016 she became a Senior Managing Director.
Ms. Lattin has been with Legg Mason for 20 years joining financial services from the healthcare field. She has held a variety of positions in every functional area of Human Resources including Head of Employee Relations, Director of Benefits, Director of Employment and is a member of Legg Mason's Operating Committee.
She is a regular volunteer in the community and currently sits on the board of Paul's Place, Thread and on the HR Committee for the Board of Catholic Charities.
She holds a Bachelor's degree in English, is SPHR certified, is a graduate of the SII Leadership Program through the Wharton School and has completed the Greater Baltimore Committee Leadership Program.
Background of Jeff Masom
Jeff Masom is a Senior Managing Director of all US Sales for Legg Mason. In this role, he is responsible for US Sales and National Accounts.
The National Accounts team provides institutional client service and marketing to retirement platforms, insurance companies, banks, Registered Investment Advisors, broker-dealer home offices, consultants, and institutional clients.
The US Retail Sales Team is comprised of over 120 field and internal sales professionals focused on the distribution of Legg Mason's broad array of investment products to Wirehouse, Regional and Independent Financial Advisors across the country.
Jeff is a member of the Global Distribution Management team, various internal and investment affiliate steering groups as well as the ICI Sales and Marketing committee and SIFMA's Asset Management committee.
Jeff started his career as an analyst for Smith Barney's Consulting Group division. He joined Legg Mason in 1997, and has since served in various roles, including managing the firm's defined contribution business and sub-advised unit and as a salesperson for the institutional team. He also headed the sales effort for Americas Offshore business.
Jeff holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Elizabethtown College and a Juris Doctor degree from Delaware Law School. He passed the Bar examination in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and is also a Level III candidate in the CFA Program.
Jeff is a Miracle Maker Leadership Council member and an active supportive of the Expect Miracles Foundation, an organization that is comprised of the financial services community that seeks research and support of families impacted by cancer. He is an active board member for Living Classrooms, a foundation that strengthens communities and inspires young people to achieve their potential through hands-on education and job training using urban, natural, and maritime resources as "living classrooms."
