Leading the Fight Against Illicit e-Waste Exports Redemtech Achieves e-Stewards Certification
-- First IT Asset Disposition Company to be e-Stewards Certified Nationally --
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The reality of the electronics recycling industry today is that the most convenient and profitable way to dispose of e-waste is also the most harmful—exporting it to developing countries is creating some of the most severe pollution ever recorded. Redemtech, a world leader in IT asset disposition and Technology Change Management (TCM) services, has again taken a leadership position in helping Global 2000 organizations manage information technology assets and e-waste to the highest standards of environmental, social and financial responsibility by achieving e-Stewards® Electronic Recycling Certification for all of its U.S. facilities.
The e-Stewards Certification is the new fully accredited, independently audited certification program developed by the Basel Action Network (BAN) in collaboration with industry leaders and environmental groups. It is the first certification program for electronics recyclers designed to ensure that obsolete electronics will be responsibly—and accountably—recycled, and not dumped in developing countries.
Redemtech is the first company to achieve e-Stewards Certification for all of its facilities nationwide, accounting for two-thirds of e-Stewards facilities certified to date. With major locations in the Eastern, Western and Midwestern United States, Redemtech has the geographic coverage and scale to handle the largest IT asset recovery and disposition projects in accordance with the e-Stewards Standard. Redemtech was able to move quickly to achieve certification because the company has been an active advocate for responsible recycling and has operated in accordance with the standard for years.
"We felt it was important to move quickly with the certification process to provide large enterprises with a global partner they can trust to handle their e-waste with complete transparency and accountability, and help the e-Stewards Standard become the industry standard for truly responsible e-waste management," said Redemtech President Robert Houghton.
Redemtech is aggressively pursuing e-Stewards Certification for its international TCM Centers in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Poland.
"Redemtech occupies a very unique niche in the business of recycling electronics and we are thrilled to have them as the first Certified e-Stewards Recycler with multiple U.S. locations certified," said Jim Puckett, executive director of BAN. "Redemtech's expanding global presence and focus on reuse of computer equipment enables enterprises to recycle responsibly no matter where their facilities are located."
