NEW YORK, April 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Queens Endoscopy, New York's newest GI-focused Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC), received same-day New York State Department of Health approval on April 19th 2013 and began caring for patients on April 22nd, 2013. The center brings together 10 of Queen's leading gastroenterologists who will perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopic services in a new, Article 28-licensed facility. The center's physicians are affiliated with New York's leading hospitals including New York Hospital Queens, North Shore LIJ and New York Presbyterian.

The project was conceived in early 2010 by Neil Brodsky, M.D. and Donald Palmadessa, M.D. who along with group of founding Members, partnered with Jordan Fowler and his management company, Frontier Healthcare. Located in Fresh Meadows at the intersection of Union Turnpike and Utopia Parkway, the center is ideally positioned for patients in the surrounding community. "Finding an appropriate site was actually one of our biggest challenges," said Dr. Palmadessa. "We needed somewhere that would be attractive to each Member's patient population and would allow their practices to grow, and the Utopia site fortunately meets these criteria."
The five procedure room facility includes five pre-op beds, ten recovery/step-down bays and is expected accommodate more than 14,000 patient visits during its first year of operation. The center will employ over thirty full-time staff members, including nurses, technicians, administrative staff and anesthesiologists. In addition, the center will also provide outreach programs that offer free or reduced-charge colorectal cancer screening to uninsured individuals within the community.
The move to an ASC setting is indicative of a larger trend in New York GI healthcare, whereby physicians are increasingly moving from the OBS to a physician-owned ASC. "The ASC allows physicians to maintain their autonomy while providing a standard of care and patient experience that exceeds that of a hospital." said Jordan Fowler, CEO of Frontier Healthcare. "Queens Endoscopy is the third New York City ASC that Frontier has opened this year and we expect this trend in NY ASCs to continue, driven by patient preference, the need for physician flexibility and NY Department of Health's endorsement of ASCs as a low-cost yet superior outpatient venue."
"This has been one of our most satisfying and successful projects to date," added Fowler. "Despite several delays and numerous challenges, we were able to open in a great location, with a magnificent facility and a strong staff. It's wonderful to have such a solid group of physicians who have supported us during what has at times seemed a daunting task, and who have maintained their enthusiasm for the project." Receiving same-day NYSDOH approval with no deficiencies is uncommon and is reflective of the physician and staff's dedication to the highest quality of care. "I'm thrilled to finally be seeing my patients at this beautiful facility," said Dr. Brodsky. "Particularly, I'm excited to be working with this group of high quality, like-minded physicians who are similarly dedicated to making sure that all aspects of our ASC represent the best in healthcare."
