Leaders and Legends - Olivet College Hosts Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame Inductions

OLIVET, Mich., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame will honor three outstanding leaders, legends, and innovators in the insurance industry at the seventeenth annual induction ceremony of the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 on the campus of Olivet College.  New inductees for 2010 are:

Mark Odland of Stevensville, Michigan.  Mr. Odland retired from State Farm Insurance Companies in 2009 as Vice President of Operations, overseeing claim operations for the Great Lakes Zone, which includes Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

Merton J. Segal of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  Mr. Segal founded Meadowbrook Insurance Group and helped many businesses and groups by developing insurance alternatives when insurance was unaffordable or unavailable.

James E. Wilds of Frankenmuth, Michigan.  Mr. Wilds is the Senior Vice President, overseeing claims operations for Frankenmuth Insurance.  During his career he created innovative solutions to improve claims service, and pioneered the use of voluntary alternative dispute resolution.

The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame was established at Olivet College in 1994 as a way to pay tribute to individuals who have made a significant impact on the ability of the Michigan insurance and risk management industry to serve the public.  An election panel, representing a cross-section of the insurance and risk management business, identifies leaders and/or innovators who have made significant contributions in five areas:  product/service development, education, recruiting new participants, legislative and regulatory activity, and exemplary service.

Olivet College is also home to a nationally recognized undergraduate insurance and risk management program, the new online MBA in Insurance, and Gamma Iota Sigma chapter consistently ranked among the top three chapters in the nation each year – the best chapter in the nation four times including 2001.
