Latin Trade Announces Enrique V. Iglesias And William Rhodes As The BRAVO Business Awards' Legacy Honorees
The BRAVO Legacy Awards commemorate the lifetime achievement and lasting impact the two individuals have had on Latin America and the Caribbean
MIAMI, Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Latin Trade Group, the leading provider of information and business services to companies operating in Latin America, announced today that Enrique V. Iglesias and William R. Rhodes will be presented with the inaugural Legacy Award at the BRAVO Business Awards, on November 7 in Miami. The Legacy Award was created to mark the 20th anniversary of BRAVO, honoring those individuals who have had a lasting and transformative impact on the region.
Enrique V. Iglesias will be honored for his illustrious career, which spans more than five decades promoting economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Iglesias has held a number of high profile positions in the public sector in Uruguay and in multilateral institutions in the Americas and Europe.
During his four terms as president of the Inter-American Development (IDB), Iglesias worked tirelessly to build the capacity to tackle the large scale debt issues facing Latin America and the Caribbean. He not only focused on the systemic economic needs of the region, but expanded the IDB's reach by developing programs to alleviate growing social challenges such as inequality, poverty and social exclusion. After 17 years leading the IDB, Iglesias was appointed secretary-general of the Ibero-American Secretariat in 2005. He continued to promote economic and social issues, and fostered collaborative efforts on education and innovation between developing and developed countries.
William R. Rhodes will be honored for his distinguished 53-year career with Citi, where he left a lasting impact on the Americas. Between 1957 until 1977 Rhodes held a number senior positions in the region for the organization. In the 1980s and 1990s he was involved in negotiating debt restructuring agreements for Argentina, Brazil, Jamaica, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
In addition to assisting foreign governments navigate through financial crises, Rhodes gained a reputation for his financial diplomacy, and strengthened ties within the Americas. His lifelong dedication to the region and decision-making ability has assisted in the overall development of the region and its integration into the global economy. Rhodes authored "Banker to the World: Leadership Lessons from the Front Lines," which has been translated in six languages and has been referred to by people such as Henry Kissinger as "required reading at all levels of finance."
"We are thrilled to recognize Mr. Iglesias and Mr. Rhodes for their lifelong dedication and impact on the region's overall economic and social transformation," said Richard Burns, chairman of Latin Trade Group. As the BRAVO Business Awards celebrate 20 years recognizing excellence and leadership in the Americas, we could have not thought of two more deserving individuals for this most prestigious award."
