Lantiq Announces New ADSL Chipset Offering Industry's Highest Density and Lowest Power Consumption for Linecard Applications
MUNICH and NEUBIBERG, Germany, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Lantiq, a leading supplier of broadband access and home networking technologies, today introduced its latest generation chipset for ADSL linecards. The GEMINAX™ XXS V3 chipset further reduces capital and operating expenses of broadband access networks.
Implemented in 65 nm process technology, the new GEMINAX XXS V3 chipset offers the industry's highest level of integration with an up to 36-channel data pump in a 17 x 17mm BGA package. It offers the industry's smallest ADSL footprint while being about 30 percent smaller than existing solutions. A further unique proposition is the unmatched power consumption which allows system manufacturers to build ADSL systems that are about 20% below the EU Code of Conduct (CoC) limits for broadband infrastructure equipment.
"Small size and easy integration translate to higher density line cards while low power consumption reduces the operating costs for our customers," said Hubert Christl, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lantiq's Access Networks Business Unit. "Our chipset integrates Metallic Line Test (MLT) functionality which allows operators to seamlessly and cost-effectively perform continuous testing of all-digital loops without disturbing the DSL service or affecting transmission performance."
The data pump of the GEMINAX XXS V3 is based on the same hardware platform as Lantiq's recently announced VDSL2 chipset, VINAX™ V3. With nearly identical ADSL/2/2+ firmware and API, system vendors have the unique ability to reuse for ADSL and VDSL linecard development.
While linecards with current generation ADSL chipsets typically feature 72 channels, the new GEMINAX XXS V3 allows designing systems with 96 or more channels on a single linecard. Systems using GEMINAX XXS V3 will reduce typical power consumption of a DSLAM by at least 12% compared to existing equipment.
According to the October 2010 iSuppli forecast, an average of almost 80 million ADSL infrastructure ports will ship each year through 2014. ADSL fully meets the requirements for IPTV, VoIP and data service delivery.
About GEMINAX™ XXS V3
The GEMINAX XXS V3 supports all international standards for ADSL / ADSL2 / ADSL2+. The high-density chipset consists of a 36 channel or 32 channel data pump in a 17 x 17 mm BGA package, an 8 channel AFE in a 10 x 10 mm BGA package and a low power line driver in a 4 x 4 mm VQFN package. With its enhanced INP functionality and ITU-T standard compliant retransmission on PHY level enabling services in very disturbed cable bundles, the chipset is perfectly tailored to support triple play and IPTV services. Together with Lantiq's VINETIC™ Codec/SLIC™ products, the GEMINAX XXS V3 chipset enables system manufacturers to design cost efficient splitter-less Integrated Voice/Data (IVD) solutions.
Availability
Samples of the GEMINAX XXS V3 are available now; volume production is scheduled for the beginning of 2011.
