Landau Uniforms Donates $600,000 in Scrubs to Haiti Relief
Company reminding business community that Haiti will need help for many more years
MEMPHIS, Tenn., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Landau Uniforms, the nation's leading quality health care apparel manufacturer, has donated more than $600,000 worth of scrubs to aid Haiti relief efforts.
"Landau is committed to providing ongoing, long-term support for Haiti as it struggles to recover from January's devastating earthquake," said Darryl Williams, V.P. Sales and Marketing for Landau Uniforms. "We understand the recovery process is going to take time, and our donation of nearly 40,000 pairs of scrubs should help the medical relief effort in Haiti for years to come."
Sarah Rose, a physical therapist from Germantown, Tenn., volunteered in Haiti after the Jan. 12 earthquake through Haiti Medical Missions of Memphis and witnessed firsthand the devastation the quake caused to Haiti's healthcare system.
"Most of the hospitals in Port-au-Prince were completely destroyed or severely damaged," Rose said. "In addition, many Haitian medical professionals have been displaced or killed."
Rose said such donations of medical supplies and scrubs are helping doctors save lives.
"It will take years for Haiti to recover. The medical professionals from around the world volunteering their time and talents need ongoing support so they can continue to provide medical care to the Haitian people."
Since 2002, Landau has made significant contributions to international relief efforts. The most recent donation to Haiti brings Landau's total value of donated medical uniforms to nearly $10 million for the 8-year period.
"Many of the medical professionals Landau serves answer, without hesitation, international calls for help in the aftermath of some of the world's most devastating disasters," Williams said. "To honor their spirit of service, we believe it's important to support these medical workers as they work to save lives across the globe."
Landau chose to make its donation to Haiti relief more than six months after the quake to remind the business community that Haiti still needs support, as the relief effort is ongoing. The nearly 40,000 pairs of scrubs will be distributed through Food For The Poor, an interdenominational Christian relief and development organization.
"Food For The Poor is grateful to receive Landau Uniforms' generous donation of scrubs," said Robin Mahfood, Food For The Poor's CEO/President. "Haiti's road to recovery is long and challenging, but Food For The Poor, which has provided aid to Haiti for more than 24 years, is committed to being there every step of the way."
