Lake Sentani Festival, Loving Culture for Our Future
JAYAPURA, Indonesia, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lake Sentani Festival (FDS) to be organized by the Jayapura district administration on 19 - 23 June 2010 will present various of Papua's enchanting potentials under the theme "Loving Culture For Our Future."
"The theme motivates us to love human existence through efforts to strengthen culture by caring and preserving Papua's natural potentials, particularly the Lake Sentani community," Head of Jayapura district, Habel Melkias Suwae, said here Tuesday.
He continued that FDS 2010 will be held for the third time after the ones in 2008 and 2009. The upcoming cultural feast will have three main concepts on performance, exhibition and tourism.
Habel said the performances will present cultural attractions and contests by performing Indonesian and particularly Papuan colossal dances, musics and songs, traditional games, arts and cultural contests among other things.
The FDS 2010 exhibition is held for promotion, investment and trading through stands which show such economic potentials of Papua as mining, forestry, fishery, farming and tourism.
"We hope the exhibition can widely open investment and economic prospects in Kenambai Umbai and Cenderawasih Land (another name for Papua)," Habel said.
Meanwhile, the tourism concept of FDS 2010 offers people to enjoy attractive tours of Lake Sentani and its vicinity.
The tours include Lake Sentani Fieldtrip, Tablanusu Village Fieldtrip, ceremony of Japan Historic monument in World War II in Genyem Village and many other things.
In addition, the event will also feature other activities including shows on Nusantara (Indonesia) and Papua cuisines, orchid and Papua plant exhibitions, the Papua history and books of culture as well as showing night fireworks on Lake Sentani.
FDS 2010 will be held on 19 - 23 June and will be concentrated in the Kalkhote tourism area, Lake Sentani, Jayapura district.
Lake Sentani covers 9,630 hectares of an area visually like the letter "S" letter and is 26.5 kilometers long to the west and east with various widths in different areas between two kilometers and 24 kilometers.
