LA Fitness Opens First Location in St. Petersburg, FL

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- LA Fitness® is pleased to announce the opening of its newest sports club, a 46,820 square foot facility in St. Petersburg, FL across from the Tyrone Square Mall. The club, formerly Publix, is located at the intersection of 68th St. North and 22nd Avenue North. The club address is 7044 22nd Avenue North. A grand opening party is scheduled for February 2011.

"We always felt the area by the Mall is in the best position to serve the residents of West St. Petersburg, Kenneth City, South Pasadena, Saint Pete Beach, Treasure Island and Madeira Beach. The challenge was to find sufficient space for a club that could provide the equipment counts, full range of amenities, abundant parking and easy access that LA Fitness members have come to expect. By combining the former Publix and Eckerd's Drug spaces and reconfiguring the parking lots, we were able to build a club we are proud of, increase the number of parking spaces available, and provide great access and convenience to our members," said Louis Welch, CEO of LA Fitness.

The new state-of-the-art sports club expects to employ 50 people ranging from part-time group fitness instructors to full-time club staff. The club features full court basketball, 4 racquetball courts, a 25 yard three lane lap pool, a whirlpool spa and spacious locker rooms with showers and saunas, as well as a separate group exercise studio. These amenities complement a full array of equipment, including over 75 pieces of the latest generation cardio equipment with individual viewing screens, selectorized circuit training, and free weight areas.  Members can participate in a variety of group fitness classes seven days a week including aqua, indoor cycling, dance classes, pilates and yoga at no additional charge, and many find that they enjoy group classes not only for the fitness benefit they provide but also as a means for social connection.  Personal training, league play, and babysitting services are also available.
