KPMG Chairman John Veihmeyer Helps Celebrate FORTUNE 'Best Companies' Ranking, at Ringing of NYSE Closing Bell
Firm Named to FORTUNE List for Fifth Consecutive Year
NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- John B. Veihmeyer, Chairman and CEO of KPMG LLP, the U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, joined CEOs from several other 100 Best companies, the Great Place to Work Institute (GPTWI), and FORTUNE Magazine to help ring the closing bell at The New York Stock Exchange on Friday, Jan. 21.
Veihmeyer was invited by the GPTWI to celebrate the publication of FORTUNE's 2011 "100 Best Companies to Work For." KPMG LLP was named to the list for the fifth consecutive year.
"It was a particularly proud moment for me to stand on the podium and represent KPMG as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For," said Veihmeyer. "Being a great place to work is critical to KPMG's success, and the fact that we have been recognized by FORTUNE and the Great Place to Work Institute for five consecutive years is a direct result of the professionalism and dedication of all our people."
KPMG climbed two places this year, ranking No. 86 on the full 2011 list; No. 29 among large-sized companies.
Henry R. Keizer, KPMG LLP Deputy Chairman and COO said, "This 'Best Companies' honor underscores how KPMG puts significant effort into fostering an energized and loyal workforce. Having a strong Employer of Choice (EOC) culture—one in which we support, recognize, and reward our employees—helps KPMG to attract the best and the brightest professionals to serve our clients."
The FORTUNE ranking is the most recent honor among a host of other awards for KPMG's EOC and people programs. These include being ranked second in the world and best of the Big Four firms on Universum's 2010 index of "The World's Most Attractive Employers." KPMG was also recently inducted into Training Magazine's Top 10 Hall of Fame; ranked second in Public Accounting Report's Annual Survey of College professors; and the firm has received a host of awards for diversity and corporate citizenship.
Methodology to Pick '100 Best Companies'
To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Three hundred eleven companies participated in this year's survey. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie.
The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
