Knob Hill Wind Farm - BC Hydro Offers 20-Year Electricity Purchase Agreement
TSX-VENTURE: SBX
VANCOUVER, March 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Sea Breeze Power Corp. is pleased to announce that the offer of a 20 year "Electricity Purchase Agreement" ("EPA") has been received from British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority ("BC Hydro") with regard to future renewable energy produced at Sea Breeze's Knob Hill Wind Farm Project (Phase 1 for 99 MW).
The Knob Hill Wind Farm Project is located 35 km northwest of Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island, within the traditional territories of the Kwakiutl, Quatsino, and Tlatlasikwala First Nations. Phase 1 of the Project would generate enough renewable electricity to power an estimated 35,000 British Columbia homes.
"The offer of a contract from BC Hydro is the result of seven years of effort towards completion of a stringent environmental assessment, comprehensive communication with communities in the region, and preparation of detailed proposal documents and negotiations in BC Hydro's Clean Power Call," said Paul Manson, President and CEO of Sea Breeze.
"During this process, we have received strong support from the Quatsino, Tlatlasikwala, and Kwakiutl First Nations as well as the communities of Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and the Regional District of Mount Waddington, for which we are deeply grateful," Manson added. "To reciprocate this valuable support, the Project will create green employment opportunities for the local communities and will move the region towards a more sustainable economic future."
Construction on the Knob Hill Wind Farm is expected to begin in Q-2 2011, with a target date for delivery of electric power in Q-4 2012.
The Knob Hill Wind Farm was the first wind project to receive an Environmental Assessment Certificate in British Columbia. Upon completion of construction, it will be the first power generating facility initiated by Sea Breeze, which is investigating an additional 180,000 hectares for wind power development throughout British Columbia.
