Kinvey Hires "Content Marketer of the Year"
Joe Chernov Joins Kinvey as VP of Marketing
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kinvey, Inc., the leading Backend as a Service (BaaS) platform, today announced the hiring of Joe Chernov, who was recently named Content Marketer of the Year by the Content Marketing Institute, as VP of Marketing.
Chernov joins Kinvey from marketing automation provider Eloqua, where he led the industry's most award-winning content marketing program. He joins a team that includes the recently hired Director of Inbound Marketing, Brian Whalley, whose background includes running SEO and inbound marketing programs for Boston's HubSpot.
"Three months ago, I wrote that the most difficult role to fill in Boston is an online marketer meets 'growth hacker' – a creative 'doer' who has built a data-driven content and social marketing engine, and can leverage those skills to help us reach new heights," said Kinvey Founder and CEO Sravish Sridhar. "With Joe Chernov, we now have the right person who fits our needs – someone who has played a leading role in building a marketing and content creation machine that helped a company grow from scaling organization to an IPO."
Chernov adds, "I'm excited for the opportunity to help build the largest backend hub for mobile and web apps in the cloud. It's a massive goal and to achieve it, Sravish has thrown out the rulebook. For example, he just hired Brian Whalley, who I competed against when he was with HubSpot. I've always admired Brian's work at HubSpot – it's good finally to be on the same side of the table as a guy like that."
Sridhar and Chernov agree that the mobile developer community is under-served by marketers. "Developers are the most important link in mobile technology's value chain, yet nobody provides them with content designed to help them keep pace with the daily changes affecting cloud and mobile. We hope to change that," added Chernov.
A TechStars alum, Kinvey announced in July that it closed a $5M Series A round with Avalon Ventures and Atlas Venture. It concurrently launched its BaaS platform out of beta, completing phase one of Sridhar's plan to spend year one building a complete backend for mobile application developers – allowing them to bring to market feature-rich mobile and web apps more quickly and scale them more predictably. Year two of Sridhar's plan emphasizes building and enriching a large mobile developer community and engaging and being a resource for them with rich and useful content, which is why the company has brought Chernov and Whalley on board.
