Key Leadership Appointments Announced By Newly Formed Baylor Scott & White Health

DALLAS, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As integration between Baylor Health Care System and Scott & White Healthcare continues, the new Baylor Scott & White Health has announced eleven members of its senior leadership team.

"These leaders, many nationally recognized in their field, commit their time and energy to setting strategy and charting the course for the new organization." 

The senior management team appointments include:

LaVone Arthur has been named chief integration officer. She is responsible for coordinating activities related to the integration of the two health care systems, including providing project leadership and direction in developing and executing integration strategies. She also is responsible for business development, coordinating all aspects of new business transactions and joint venture arrangements.

David J. Ballard, MD, PhD, FACP, has been named chief quality officer. He provides oversight, sets strategy and directs quality initiatives for the organization.  He also leads Baylor Health Care System's STEEEP^® Global Institute, which focuses on improving quality of care across the entire health care industry.

Wm. Stephen Boyd has been named chief legal officer. He serves as the system's general counsel and corporate secretary.  As chief legal officer, Boyd is the general counsel responsible for all legal and risk management functions.

Matthew Chambers has been named chief information officer. Chambers now manages the complex information technology (IT) infrastructure, programs, security and department staff of the new organization. He also is responsible for safeguarding the protected health information of Baylor Scott & White Health patients and leading upgrades to the organization's electronic health record.

Mark Grace M.Div., A.C.P.E., has been appointed chief mission and ministry officer. He is responsible for overseeing pastoral care and chaplaincy programs at Baylor Scott & White Health facilities, as well as programs that take employees and medical resources out into the community and around the world to help those in need.

Kristi Hoyl is taking on the role of chief government affairs officer. She is responsible for cultivating relationships at the local, state and federal levels of government and focusing on legislative agendas as they relate to health care issues.

Robert Michalski has been tapped as chief compliance officer to lead the regulatory compliance efforts of Baylor Scott & White Health. He is responsible for developing, implementing and enforcing guidelines that promote compliance with local, state and federal laws, as well as ethical behavior and established policies within the new organization.

J. James Rohack, MD, FACC, FACP, has been named chief health policy officer. Dr. Rohack guides the new organization's research and academic efforts to improve care while reducing costs.  

Fred Savelsbergh has been named chief financial officer. Savelsbergh oversees all financial strategy, functions and transactions for the new entity, which has 36,000 employees and $8.6 billion in total assets*. 

Steve Sullivan is taking on the role of chief strategy officer. Sullivan will work closely with other members of the senior leadership team at Baylor Scott & White Health to develop and execute plans to better care for communities and increase efficiency.

Donald E. Wesson, MD, has been named chief academic officer. He directs physician, nursing and allied health education programs and collaborations, as well as research for the new organization.
