Kennel Club LAX Sends Care Packages to Canine Bomb Sniffing Heroes at 'Pack for Paws' Party On Memorial Day
Pets and Their Owners Invited to Help Box Up Beds, Treats and Toys for Shipment to Afghanistan
LOS ANGELES, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Some of America's well-loved heroes, which happen to be four-legged and fuzzy enlisted soldiers who sniff out bombs in enemy territories and save lives, will be honored this Memorial Day at the Kennel Club LAX (www.kennelclublax.com) at 5325 West 102nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90045. From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., pets and their owners are invited to help "Pack for Paws" to fill care packages with soft beds, nutritious gourmet treats and toys for the military dogs; and books, cleansing shampoo/conditioner, and delectable human snacks for their soldier handlers who are currently stationed in Afghanistan. The K9 care packages have been arranged by Kennel Club LAX's founder, Sharon Graner, whose facility has served both civilian and military dogs and their owners since 1983. Pets and their owners are invited to be photographed in a patriotic setting and will have an opportunity to attach an appreciation note inside the boxes sent overseas giving these very special teams a smile and a wag with every photo. The "Pack for Paws" Party will include a demonstration by retired military K9 team 'Paco' and Sergeant Jason Becker who will explain how the teams work to sniff out explosives and will also bring their medals of valor to show guests. Refreshments for everyone and their pups will be served.
Los Angeles being the most pet-populated city in the U.S. with over 2.6 million furry companions, the Kennel Club LAX raised money to kick start this military care package effort. The purchases and donations from the Kennel Club LAX clients and supporters range from collapsible water and food bowls, to a duffel bag with a soft rollup sleeping mat for added comfort for the K9 soldiers while they protect and serve.
"Most Americans don't know about these unsung heroes," said founder of Kennel Club LAX, Sharon Graner. "Since WWI, these American heroes have been protecting our military personnel with courage, loyalty, and honor. According to www.USWarDogs.org, these courageous canine heroes saved over 10,000 lives during the conflict in Vietnam. There are approximately 500 of these K9 teams currently in the Middle East and we are on a mission to let them know how much we appreciate their dedicated work."
