KDKA and Dollar Energy Fund's 2nd Annual 'Warmathon' Raises $192,400
Pittsburghers Help Thousands of Their Low-Income Neighbors Stay Warm
PITTSBURGH, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2010 NewsRadio 1020 KDKA Warmathon to benefit Dollar Energy Fund raised funds to help over 685 Pittsburgh area families, more than 2,000 individuals, maintain safe utility service. The Warmathon, a 31-hour live broadcast from the PPG Wintergarden, took place on February 11-12, 2010.
"The Pittsburgh community is always incredibly generous," said Cindy Datig, chief executive officer of Dollar Energy Fund. "For over 25 years, Dollar Energy Fund has worked from the premise of neighbors helping neighbors. Because of the generosity of our neighbors during the Warmathon, Dollar Energy Fund will be able to provide more assistance to make sure none of our less fortunate neighbors have to face a Pittsburgh winter without utility service."
Sponsors of the Warmathon, including Allegheny Power, Columbia Gas, Peoples Natural Gas, Duquesne Light, Equitable Gas, Ohio Valley General Hospital, and Healthy Performance, stepped up to the plate to make the event a success. Hundreds of volunteers staffed the phone bank and 'Pedaled for Power' – keeping a bulb powered by a stationary bike for 31 hours.
Our less fortunate neighbors still need help. Please continue to support the Warmathon. To donate, mail a check to P.O. Box WARM, Pittsburgh, PA 15230 or visit www.warmathon.com. And, new this year, you can donate $10 through you cell phone bill by simply texting "WARM" to 20222.
