KCT Manages Construction of Lekhwiya Sports Stadium and Sports Complex
WASHINGTON, Dec. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Khayat Contracting and Trading Co. (KCT), headed by Mohamed Moataz Al-Khayat. CEO, has some 20 construction projects underway in the Doha region in Qatar, with a total workforce of about 6,000 workers. Among its many huge projects is the construction of the Lekhwiya Sports Stadium and Sports Complex in Doha.
Having broken ground in July 2011, for contract design and build, KCT was the main contractor for the design and building of the Complex, which has 385,000 square meters of activity space. The Complex includes a 10,000-spectator soccer stadium, which has already opened, four training fields with their own changing room facilities, a Mosque, a 75-key five-star hotel, a fitness center and a multipurpose hall.
The Complex was commissioned to be finished to the highest standards. Examples include Onyx cladding, variegated glass, marble finishes, turnstile entrances, stamped concrete and stamped asphalt. The main grandstand has ground level for players and coaches. The mezzanine level has offices, as well as facilities for broadcast and other media. There is a 1st floor for VIP and a 2nd floor for VVIP fans.
While this stadium will not be used to host any of the World Cup games when Qatar hosts the FIFA World Cup in 2022, the facility will be used as a training ground and hospitality for several of the international teams during the competition. The Complex currently is the home ground of Qatar's premier domestic football team Lekhwiya.
The Complex was built to meet the business and operational goals of a world-class sports and entertainment complex and contributes to the vitality of Qatar's largest city and its growing reputation as the region's sports capital.
KCT also recently launched the Al Khayat Academy for Training, a facility to train construction tradesmen and unskilled laborers, as well as foremen and supervisors in 10 trades. The Academy has five classrooms and two training yards for practical training. The rooms can accommodate 35 people. Some 1,220 workers have received or are currently receiving training at the Academy so far this year.
KCT is one of 17 companies owned by Mr. Al-Khayat. The companies include general contracting, commercial and residential developments, building materials, various trading companies, hospitals and restaurants with operations in Syria, Morocco and Qatar. After the start of the Syrian revolution in 2011, Mr. Al-Khayat joined the Syrian opposition and because of that decision, the regime confiscated all his assets in Syria as well as his family's assets. Mr. Al-Khayat now operates his enterprises from Qatar. He is committed to fostering and supporting humanitarian efforts in the Near East.
