MIAMI, July 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As college graduates face a national economic downside and fewer job openings, they are conducting research on new career trends prior to selecting the degree of their choice. With public administration and government job opportunities becoming a new avenue, students are more and more looking into the criminal justice field.

St. Thomas University graduate student Andrej Milic is one of South Florida's success stories. Milic was awarded first place in Justice Administration at the National Leadership Conference, July 9-12, in Nashville, Tennessee. He is now national champion in justice administration for Florida Phi Beta Lambda and was awarded the first place in justice administration at the state level earlier this year in Tampa.
Now working as a graduate assistant for Biscayne College, Milic is completing his Master of Science in Management with a Specialization in Justice Administration. According to Dr. James Conley, Interim Dean of the University's Biscayne College, "we want to get the word out to high school students, telling them that a major in criminal justice can secure positions with the U.S. Marshal's Service, the DEA, FBI, Treasury Department, and U.S. Customs as well as local law enforcement agencies. They may also be eligible for work as probation or parole officers, victim assistance workers, correctional employees, private investigators or postal investigators. Other less well known but exciting possibilities include the Air Marshal's Service and the Guardian Ad Litem program, as well as numerous treatment program counselors."
St. Thomas University recently addressed student interest for higher degrees in public administration, criminology, criminal justice, or law, adding a Master degree with a specialization in Criminal Justice. STU boasts a well published faculty – including expert in criminal justice curriculum Dr. Gary Feinberg. Unlike many other institutions, St. Thomas University makes rare use of part-time adjuncts for whom teaching is only a hobby.
Other student advantages found at STU include the feasibility of carrying a second major in Psychology, Political Science, English, History, and Environmental Justice, among other academic programs, without having to take extra courses beyond those required for the BA degree. Students can also obtain a Certificate in Homeland Security and Terrorism. For information on Biscayne College of Liberal Arts and Humanities, students can contact Dr. Conley at [email protected].
