Juan Verde of the Obama Administration Interested in Navarra, Spain
WASHINGTON, February 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The delegation that represents Navarra for "Navarra-United States Week 2011" has undertaken its first day of work in Washington. A meeting was held with Barack Obama's Vice-Secretary of Commerce, Juan Verde, in which the ambassador of Spain to North America, Jorge Dezcallar, also participated.
The President of Navarra, Miguel Sanz stated that the meeting held by the delegation "was very positive, because it allowed us to see how much Navarra is valued in Washington."
He as well indicated that the Vice-Secretary Juan Verde, "guaranteed us that a commercial team made up of businessmen will go to Navarra to visit the representative sectors of our economy, among them renewable energy, agribusiness and biomedicine."
Also present were the Vice-President and Minister of Economy and Finances, Alvaro Miranda, the President of Confederation of Businessmen of Navarra, Jose Antonio Sarria, the President of the Commerce and Industry Region, Javier Taberna, the Director General of CENER, Jose Javier Armendariz, and the businessman Benito Jimenez who presented the qualities of the Navarran economy with special emphasis on the Modern Plan and the advancement of a model for renewable energy.
Juan Verde appeared very interested in the plans for the future being proposed by Navarra and convincingly showed investors from the United States and Navarra that they will find opportunities for their business endeavors. The Vice-Secretary of Commerce didn't hide his surprise on hearing excellent details about the Navarran biomedicine, biotechnology and agroindustry. He also appreciated the leadership role that the Autonomous Community has among European regions and the difference between its unemployment rate and that of the whole of Spain.
The Spanish ambassador in the United States praised the institutional missions that the government of Navarra, from the Commerce and Industry Region, SODENA and the Regulating Council of the Guarantee of Origin of Wine have been developing for seven years. Jorge Dezcallar proposed to dedicate the next National Day of Spain, the twelfth of October in Washington, to the Autonomous Region of Navarra. This event is already a tradition in the capital of the United States and attracts thousands of officials of the federal administration and diplomatic delegations.
