As Habitat-NYC Home Production Surges, Lockwood Honored for His Leadership
NEW YORK, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Habitat for Humanity - New York City is proud to announce that Crain's New York Business has named Executive Director Josh Lockwood to its 2010 class of "Forty Under 40."
The magazine's annual award honors New York business leaders who have achieved success in their fields before reaching their 40th birthday.
Lockwood, 38, joined Habitat-NYC in 2006 and was named Executive Director in November 2007. Habitat-NYC, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, builds affordable homes for ownership in New York City.
"I am honored to receive this recognition from Crain's New York Business and privileged to be leading Habitat-NYC at this historic time, when we are providing more affordable homes to hardworking New York City families than ever before," Lockwood said. "Habitat-NYC is truly a collaborative organization, and this tribute should be shared with our many partners – staff; board members; volunteers; New Yorkers from the corporate, community and faith sectors; and most important, our family partner/homeowners."
"Josh has done a tremendous job," said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International based in Atlanta. "His energy, enthusiasm and passion for affordable housing has resulted in broad engagement of the New York community and the development of many successful strategies to help families move into homes they can afford. We are very proud of Josh and fortunate to have him guiding our efforts in New York City."
During his tenure with Habitat-NYC, Josh spearheaded construction of the 41-unit Atlantic Avenue complex in Brooklyn, the largest multifamily project ever built by a U.S. Habitat affiliate. This affordable complex received a LEED Gold designation. These 41 homes were among 84 homes under development by Habitat-NYC last year, a dramatic increase in production for the organization.
Habitat for Humanity - New York City transforms lives and our city by building quality homes for families in need and by uniting all New Yorkers around the cause of affordable housing. With the help of thousands of volunteers every year, Habitat-NYC has built more than 220 affordable homes in New York City. Learn more at www.habitatnyc.org.
