Join PACER Center and Unite Against Bullying During National Bullying Prevention Month in October
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a project of PACER Center. It's a time when communities nationwide can promote bullying prevention by using free resources at PACER.org.
These resources are needed now more than ever. Parents like James Jones, the father who made national headlines after his daughter with cerebral palsy was bullied on a school bus, can find help at PACER.org. Organizations, educators, students and families can find multiple ways to address bullying and help create a culture that no longer accepts this kind of behavior.
"To make a significant impact on bullying, we need people across the country to take action and join the movement," said Julie Hertzog, director of PACER's National Center for Bullying Prevention. "When nearly one in three students is involved in bullying, it's time for all of us to work together and change the culture."
To promote this message, PACER's National Center for Bullying Prevention has recently been featured on NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, CNN and Geraldo At Large on FOX News, as well as in Family Circle and Woman's Day.
Anyone can join this cause and make a difference by using the tools and ideas at PACER.org.
Nonprofits, schools, and community groups can show their support and share their efforts to prevent bullying by becoming a national Partner or Champion of the cause. Organizations and a link to their website will be listed on PACER's site, along with a list of any activities or events they are planning in connection with the month. To become a Partner or Champion, visit PACER.org/bullying.
Teens can sign an online petition, tell their story at [email protected], start a bullying prevention committee at their school or join the TeensAgainstBullying Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube sites. They'll find videos, blogs and a toolkit of ways they can address bullying at PACERTeensAgainstBullying.org.
Elementary school students can take the "Kids Against Bullying" pledge and learn how to respond to bullying at PACERKidsAgainstBullying.org. The site features animated characters, celebrity videos, games and more.
Educators and parents can find free, creative classroom activities and resources for K-12 students at PACER.org/bullying.
