Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. Introduces 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL Contact Lenses
New Lens Launch A Highlight of Optometry's Meeting®
SEATTLE, June 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. today announced the launch of 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL Contact Lenses, an industry first: the only multifocal contact lens that has been created with uniquely optimized optic designs to address the natural variations in pupil size according to age – and refractive power. Available nationwide in doctors' offices, 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL was developed based on years of insights of the presbyopic eye.
Most other multifocal lenses in the market are not designed to account for variations in pupil size. And, when the optical power distribution in the lens design does not closely align with the pupil size, the overall clarity of vision across distance, intermediate and near may be negatively affected.
"We know that patients struggle as they reach their mid-40s to find contact lenses that help them maintain the vision they've been used to," said Dr. Kurt Moody, OD, Global Platform Director, Presbyopia, R&D at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. "We saw the need to innovate for doctors and patients, and are proud that in clinical studies, patients wearing 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL were achieving consistent and excellent near, intermediate and distance vision. Patients not only had better vision, they reported superior comfort that we attribute to the 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST platform, which as a daily disposable modality also enhances convenience. We're giving doctors the power to transform the way their presbyopic patients see and live their day-to-day lives."
"Technological advances in materials and a skilled doctor of optometry's understanding of each individual patient's eye health needs have created an array of new choices and new possibilities for contact lens wearers," said David A. Cockrell, OD, President, American Optometric Association. "That's why more than 38 million Americans now wear contacts and many experts are projecting significant growth in lens wear as a new generation discovers their many benefits."

This lens features a unique aspheric center-near design for the presbyopic eye, with innovative
EYE-INSPIRED™ Design:
Pupil Optimization
1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL is the only multifocal contact lens that closely matches the optical design to the pupil size for a better visual experience. 61 distance powers (in quarter diopter steps from +6.00D to -9.00D) and three ADD powers equals 183 unique designs for built-in precision. This precision delivers more consistent performance in a multifocal lens that can help minimize chair time and maximize success delivering a better experience for patients. In fact, 94% of patients were successfully fit with two pairs of lenses or less.*
Hybrid back-curve design
The hybrid back curve design helps deliver a superior vision experience in two ways: first, the spherical periphery helps ensure centration of the optics over the pupil, and second, the aspheric center closely mimics the natural shape of the cornea to maintain the integrity of the complex front-surface optics.
LACREON® Technology
1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL is built on the 1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST platform and utilizes LACREON® Technology, a unique process that permanently embeds the wetting agent PVP in the lens material. This PVP creates a long-lasting cushion of moisture from the lens core to the lens surface to help reduce symptoms of contact lens-related dryness.
CLASS 2 UV Blocking
1-DAY ACUVUE® MOIST Brand MULTIFOCAL blocks approximately 82% of UVA rays and 97% of UVB rays.**† Although UV-blocking contact lenses provide important added protection for patients, they should not be viewed as a stand-alone solution. Contact lenses should always be worn in conjunction with high-quality UV-blocking sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat for maximum UV protection for the eyes.

†Helps protect against transmission of harmful UV radiation to the cornea and into the eye.
**WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography, cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts or other eye disorders. Consult your eye care practitioner for more information.
