JESS3 Launches 'The State of Wikipedia'
Wikipedia's 10th Anniversary Focus of Fourth "State of" Video
WASHINGTON, Jan. 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Wikipedia co-founder stars as the voice driving the narrative of "The State of Wikipedia," a video released today that celebrates the online encyclopedia's origins and future.
Jimmy Wales helped launch the popular site 10 years ago, which now has more than 17 million articles in over 270 languages and is viewed by more than 400 million people each month.
Leading data visualization firm JESS3 produced the video.
"To be able to educate people about how and why Wikipedia works was the challenge," said Jesse Thomas, founder and executive creative director of JESS3. "But the payoff was that we were given the opportunity to elevate and celebrate the Wikipedia brand through visual storytelling."
JESS3 releases the video as the fourth installment in its "State of" series, following "The State of the Internet," "The Future of Revenue," and "The State of Cloud Computing," all released in 2010.
The company plans to release three more installments over the next few months.
