WAXAHACHIE, Texas, March 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic candidate Jana Lynne Sanchez is seeking to replace Barton and has prepared a musical response to Barton's undemocratic treatment of his constituents. The song, entitled (Don't Tell Us to) Shut Up was co-written with Nashville songwriter Judy Klass and produced at Starlight Studios in Red Oak, Texas.
At his town hall meeting on March 11th, Congressman Joe Barton (TX-6) tried to do everything possible to quiet his vocal constituents including holding a town hall meeting 60 miles away from major population centers. When concerned constituents showed up anyway, he refused to let people speak, even yelling "shut up" at a school teacher concerned about violence against women.
Attendees at the meeting were outraged by the veteran politician's heavy handed tactics as can be clearly seen in the now-viral video (http://tinyurl.com/zo8tl47). Barton's actions have gotten so much attention that the incident has been covered by national news outlets like The Washington Post, Yahoo News, Esquire and The Huffington Post.
"Music is often a powerful way to voice the feelings of the unheard or in this case, those who weren't allowed to speak," says Sanchez. "If Joe Barton won't listen to the people of his district, maybe he'll listen to a song."
