WESTWOOD, Mass., Nov. 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Island Hospital located in Anacortes, Wash., recently signed to upgrade to MEDITECH's Web Electronic Health Record (EHR). A MEDITECH customer since 1992, the hospital was at a crossroads when faced with the decision to move forward with MEDITECH's contemporary Web EHR or sign with another EHR vendor. After initiating a thorough evaluation of EHR solutions, the 43-bed hospital with seven family care and six specialty clinics, chose to continue its partnership with MEDITECH.
"There were many factors at play that led to our decision to continue our partnership with MEDITECH, specifically the Web EHR's integration and interoperability capabilities, ability to monitor our patient populations, care coordination, and usability," John Mathis, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at Island Hospital said. "Our care providers also responded very well to MEDITECH's built-in status boards and protocols that help prevent hospital-acquired infections (HACs) and monitor various clinical quality measures."
Nestled in the northwest territory of Washington, Island Hospital serves many surrounding communities, including Fidalgo, Cypress, and the Guemes and Sinclair islands. The smallest hospital in Washington providing Level III trauma care, Island has achieved many national and regional accolades for its quality of care, including ranking fifth in Washington for quality care from Medicare patients. In addition, Island is one of only 10 Washington hospitals ranked a 4-Star Hospital by Medicare, based on patients' survey responses.
"Island Hospital is unique as we serve patients across a wide radius, and many of our patients reside on islands off the mainland," Dr. Mathis said. "With MEDITECH's one patient, one record approach, we have a comprehensive profile of the patient as they transition across care settings—ensuring our care providers have the information to make the most informed decisions during the care process."
Island Hospital will be utilizing MEDITECH's READY implementation model for small community healthcare organizations to implement MEDITECH's Web Acute, Web Emergency Department, Web Ambulatory, and Business and Clinical Analytics solutions in 2017.
"MEDITECH is proud to continue our partnership with Island Hospital," Helen Waters, executive vice president of Sales and Marketing at MEDITECH said. "They have an impressive commitment to quality and patient care, and MEDITECH is honored that Island Hospital will be moving forward with the Web EHR to meet their care coordination, patient safety, and population health goals."
