Broadcast Veteran Appointed as First Ever VP of Content
NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Investopedia, the web's premier source of trusted financial content, today announced the appointment of Caleb Silver as Vice President of Content. Silver brings nearly 20 years of professional experience to the role as an award-winning journalist, with more than a decade spent at CNN and CNNMoney overseeing business news. The appointment of Silver is the latest in Investopedia's strategy to increase the production of original, high quality editorial and multimedia content across its site, which now reaches 20 million unique users a month.
"We are thrilled to have an editorial heavyweight like Caleb join our team," commented David Siegel, CEO of Investopedia. "Last year saw Investopedia triple content production; with Caleb at the helm we have the opportunity to take original editorial to the next level with a forward-leaning strategy that not only helps our readers make sense of the day's biggest headlines, but anticipates where the news is headed."
With more than 20 years producing broadcast news, digital video programming, documentaries, and live events, Silver will oversee all of Investopedia's content operations, including nine editors and a network of 100 contributors. His core charter includes honing Investopedia's editorial voice, infusing the site with regular contributions from some of the influential names in the investing world, and enriching storytelling through interviews, thought pieces, biographies and company profiles. Silver will also accelerate Investopedia's existing strategy to build out more video content, leveraging new tools and techniques around motion graphics and data visualization to better engage and inform its audience.
"Investopedia is uniquely positioned to become the leader in investing news at this critical time in the global economy," said Silver. "The business was built on a solid foundation of demystifying financial terms for investors, but has evolved to become a real digital media brand dedicated to empowering people to make smarter decisions with their money. With incredible scale and stellar leadership, the best days are ahead and I'm honored to join the Investopedia team."
This news is the latest in a series of moves – which include appointing key leadership roles from the likes of Bloomberg, CNBC and Seeking Alpha – from Investopedia to grow the business and cement the brand as a premium digital publisher in the financial space. Investopedia focused heavily on increasing content production in 2015, with a specific emphasis on original video, a strategy that yielded double the user engagement with video content as compared to 2014. In the third quarter of 2015, Investopedia page views were up 21 percent year over year; the company also saw 30 percent year to date revenue growth in that same quarter.
