InformationWeek Healthcare Launches the 2011 Mobile Application Smackdown Competition
Open Call To All Healthcare Professionals And Software Developers To Nominate The Best Mobile And Telehealth Applications
SAN FRANCISCO, May 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- InformationWeek Healthcare, the leading media brand focused on helping healthcare technology professionals define next-gen IT-based medical care, announces the first-ever Mobile Healthcare Application Smackdown.
InformationWeek Healthcare's Mobile App Smackdown is a competition to identify the most compelling and transformational mobile healthcare and telehealth applications. Nominations should represent applications that facilitate communication between healthcare practitioners and patients or ones that help clinicians do their jobs better.
Both healthcare professionals and software developers are invited to nominate their favorite mobile and telehealth applications. All nominated applications must be shipping or in production use. Multiple applications can be nominated, however separate online forms must be completed for each. All nominations must be submitted online by May 31, 2011.
"Mobile medical apps really can help transform patient care, but in order for that to happen, developers have to 'color outside the lines.' A recent survey suggests that about one out of every four mobile apps that are downloaded are used only once. We're looking for those unique plug-ins that can go the distance—programs that really keep the doctor-patient dialogue going long-term, or that keep clinicians engaged well into the future," says Paul Cerrato, editor of InformationWeek Healthcare.
A panel of InformationWeek Healthcare editors and healthcare professionals will select semi-finalists who will be asked to submit 3-minute videos showing how their applications work. Five finalists will be chosen from among the semi-finalists and will be invited to demo their apps at the InformationWeek Healthcare IT Leadership Forum on July 12 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. The full-day event brings together chief information officers, chief technology officers and other top technology decision makers to discuss how they're advancing state-of-the-art healthcare.
