Indian States See IriTech's Scanner Bolstering Efficiency of Authentication for Aadhaar
FAIRFAX, Va., March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IriTech, a leading iris based identity management technology solutions company and a member of the Texas Instruments Design Network, announced today that the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has demonstrated its IriShield USB MK2120U device during a launching event of Andhra Pradesh state's iris scanning facility for pension distribution.
The iris scanner is manufactured by U.S. based IriTech and assembled to be marketed in India through its Indian partner, Biometronic Technology, was the first iris 'authentication' scanner to be STQC certified by the Indian government for the ongoing Aadhaar project – the largest biometric project in history with a goal to register all 1.2 billion Indian residents to solve inefficiencies resulting from having a large population without any form of identity. Moreover, IriTech just recently became the first iris product to be registered by the DGS&D (Department of Goods Supply and Disposal, Ministry of Commerce & Industry), the IriShield USB MK2120U to be delivered to specific government departments and ministries.
"The state's decision to use iris technology as a primary method to issue Aadhaar verified DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) will address concerns of total inclusiveness of its residence as well as providing a more accurate and a hygiene solution," says Binod E. Mathai, Director of Biometronic Technology. Iris recognition is known to provide the highest level of accuracy among all biometric modalities and the rate of enrollment is higher compared to fingerprint as a larger population has worn and torn fingerprints than irises.
Daniel Daehoon Kim, founder and CEO of IriTech said, "We are very proud and excited to be part of the implementation of iris technology on the national level. IriTech's success in the Indian market is something we take with great pride. We are absolutely delighted to bring the world's leading iris recognition technology to India and hope over time to demonstrate the value and versatility this technology offers."
Last month the Co-Founder of Infosys and former UIDAI Chairman, Nandan Nilekani envisioned that within a year or two the future generation of smartphones will have iris cameras built into them. Deployment of iris recognition technology in mobile devices will provide a significant enhancement in security along as taking iris recognition main stream.
