Inaugural 5K Fun Run at RIMS conference raises $12,500 for Spencer Educational Foundation

MEMPHIS, Tenn., May 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sedgwick Claims Management Services, Inc., the leader in technology-enabled claims and productivity management solutions, proudly served as the naming sponsor of the inaugural Spencer 5K Fun Run, raising more than $12,500 to support the Spencer Educational Foundation's mission of funding the education of tomorrow's risk management and insurance leaders.

The April 28 event was held as part of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) 2015 Annual Conference and Exhibition in New Orleans. Nearly 180 runners participated in the early-morning race, which covered 3.14 miles through the city's scenic downtown waterfront.

The educational and charitable foundation is the premier organization awarding scholarships and grants in risk management and insurance, facilitating internship opportunities, and providing risk manager-in-residence programs to universities. Since its founding in 1979, the Spencer Educational Foundation has awarded more than 740 scholarships totaling $5.3 million and $2.2 million in grants to universities and professional institutions for educational programs and conferences.

The foundation is named for the late Robert S. Spencer, who served as president of RIMS from 1977 to 1978. It is an affiliate of the national RIMS organization and supported by individuals, corporations, local RIMS chapters and fundraising events like the 5K Fun Run.
