In Time for Cinco De Mayo - Allrecipes.com Launches New Online Cooking Community for Spanish-Speaking Home Cooks: Allrecipes.com.mx
New Social Media Site is the First Major Spanish Language Recipe Site and Expands Global Presence of the World's Largest Food Site
SEATTLE, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Allrecipes.com, the world's largest food site with more than 365 million annual visits, today announced the launch of Allrecipes.com.mx, the first major Spanish-language social site for Mexican home cooks. Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Spanish-speaking cooks have a new resource for finding and sharing authentic Mexican recipes.
Allrecipes.com.mx offers a recipe site and community where Spanish-speaking home cooks can connect no matter where they live. According to the 2007 American Community Survey conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, Spanish is the first or second language of 45 million Hispanics living in the United States. This group now makes up 11 percent of the U.S. online population, experiencing six percent year-over-year growth in February 2009 (comScore Media Metrix).
"We are pleased to provide Allrecipes.com.mx to the Spanish-speaking community in the U.S. and Mexico," said Patricia Lee Smith, international vice president at Allrecipes. "With 15 international sites now serving 25 countries, our goal is to provide home cooks and consumer product marketers worldwide with sites that deliver innovative and convenient solutions."
Site Features
Allrecipes.com.mx offers a wide variety of everyday and holiday recipe ideas created and contributed by Hispanic home cooks in the U.S. and Mexico. Content is targeted to cooks of all skill levels, from beginner to expert, who can actively participate in the community site by finding and sharing recipes, reviews, photos, personal profiles, and food ideas. To enjoy real Mexican dishes, Cinco de Mayo party-goers can sip a refreshing Margaritas Gonzalez made with mandarin juice and munch Tacos al Pastor, which is sure to make guests shout Viva Mexico!
Innovative social media features enable cooks to connect and inspire each other within a trusted online community. Site members can become friends, follow others to receive regular updates on favorite cooks' recipes, submit and view photos, recipe tweaks and comments; and post comments and questions directly on the fridges of their friends (similar to posting on someone's Facebook wall). Home cooks will also appreciate the ingredient search tool allowing them to search for recipes using ingredients in the pantry or refrigerator, eliminating unnecessary trips to the grocery store.
New Global Partnership Opportunities
In 2008, Allrecipes expanded internationally in response to growing worldwide interest in Allrecipes and social media. The Reader's Digest Association, parent company of Allrecipes, is committed to creating global communities around its trusted brands, reflected by the launch of 14 international Allrecipes websites in the past two years.
Allrecipes' international sites enable brands to become part of a market level dialog with home cooks at their point of need, engaging with them in a targeted environment through seamless branded content integration programs.
