Impressive Energy Saving Figures for GlaxoSmithKline Using Insulating Luxasolar® Window Films
SINT NIKLAAS, Belgium, September 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
At the site of GlaxoSmithKline in Marly-le Roi (France) 7.000m² of Luxasolar® window films were installed to the inside of their glazing. This installation resulted in an annual heating gain of 1.473.738 kWh and a reduction of the electricity consumption of 1.946.918 kWh, or annual savings of around 61.000 euros on heating and 134.000 euros on cooling. The Return on Investment was made in less than 2 years.
The installation of the window film led to an annual reduction of the CO2-emissions of 1.133.000 kg. at the GSK site.
In 2006 GSK started the "Climate Change" Program to reduce their energy consumption with 45% by 2015. At the GSK site in France the challenge was to obtain the most constant internal temperature, warm in winter and cool in summer, without any loss of internal light and a transparent appearance.
GSK followed the example of the European Commission, DG Environment in Brussels, where the climate change and Kyoto departments reside, and 2.300m² of Luxasolar® window films have been installed. After the installation of Luxasolar® tests were executed in the building of the
European Commission by the independent Engineering Bureau Attentia, showing temperature drops up to 8,1 °C.
Luxasolar® is an intelligent glass insulation technology that offers a clean energy product and environmentally friendly solution to heat and building control, resulting in energy-savings summer AND winter.
This spectrally selective window film has a very high visible light transmission and unique low absorption, in combination with excellent solar characteristics. The foil also improves the thermal insulation of the existing glazing in winter up to 57%.
The Luxasolar® films are always applied to the inside of the glazing and can be installed on any type of glazing, even inclined glazing.
Other European references include The European Parliament (1.290m²), BNP Paribas Tourlille Tower (7.500m²), Swiss Reassurance (940m²) and the Brussels World Trade Center III (1.960m²).
