Impact Mobile and Abbotsford Police Department Deliver Non-Emergency Text Services

TORONTO, June 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Partnering with Impact Mobile, Abbotsford Police Department has introduced a non-emergency text (SMS) service for its citizens to engage with its communications centre in real-time.  The text service works with any mobile phone by texting 222973 (abbypd), allowing live, two-way interaction from anywhere in British Columbia. 

Abbotsford Police Department (APD) introduced the non-emergency text service in view of the ubiquitous nature of mobile messaging, its ease of use and convenience.  Moreover, text services enable accessibility for citizens with speech and hearing disabilities.  APD chose Impact Mobile given its experience as the provider of Text-911 emergency services in Canada.  Impact Mobile successfully completed the trial phase of Text-911 in 2012, and is currently working to deploy the full production system which will operate to five nines availability.
