IMG Academies to Bring World Class Sports Camp Experience to Randall's Island, NY
Six-week TOTAL ATHLETE summer sports program to deliver coaching expertise, training methodologies of a Fla.-based sports institute
BRADENTON, Fla., March 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning this summer, IMG Academies will bring six weeks of multi-sport camps to Randall's Island Park. Randall's Island Park, located in the East River between Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens, is home to more than half of all the athletic fields in Manhattan. IMG Academies summer sports camps will offer baseball, football, lacrosse and soccer programs on June 27-August 12, 2011 for boys and girls ages 7-18. One-third of profits from the camps will be donated to the Randall's Island Sports Foundation (RISF) for field maintenance and upkeep.
"We are excited to bring the disciplines of THE TOTAL ATHLETE program to youth throughout the tri-state area and beyond this summer," said Odis Lloyd, Vice President, IMG Academies. "We have delivered THE TOTAL ATHLETE experience to our youth athletes in Bradenton, Fla. for more than 30 years. Some of the best athletes in the world, from Maria Sharapova to Eli Manning to Joey Votto, began or advanced their professional careers training under these disciplines."
While most summer camps focus solely on fundamental skill development, IMG sports performance training program offers a unique 360-degree approach that includes mental and physical conditioning, communications training, vision training and nutrition to help increase a young athlete's overall development.
"We look forward to welcoming IMG Academies to Randall's Island Park this summer with their unique day camp programs," said Karen Cohen, President & Founder, Randall's Island Sports Foundation. "We are proud to offer New York's youth a beautiful and expansive state-of-the-art facility on which to train, and are pleased that IMG Academies has selected Randall's Island Park as a destination for its world class coaching and training methodologies."
The camp program includes single weeks or multi-week packages beginning June 27 and runs through August 12, 2011. A sample camp day includes four hours of sport-specific training and instruction and two hours of rotating performance discipline training offered by the IMG Sports Performance Institute.
In addition to the weekly camp program, IMG Academies will host a separate series of weekend sport clinics at Randall's Island Park throughout July. The clinics will feature sport-specific instruction paired with Combine360 evaluation. Combine360, developed by IMG in conjunction with Under Armour, is a new universal measurement tool that allows for customized recommendation for improving athletic performance across all sports.
