IGEN Networks signs Exclusive Agreement with Machlink, for wireless technology with high-speed Internet, phone and data applications
LAS VEGAS, May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - Mr. Richard Gilbertson reports:
IGEN Networks Corp. (IGEN) is pleased to announce that IGEN has signed an exclusive distribution license agreement with Machlink Inc. (MLI) for rights to its existing patent pending and proprietary technology in wireless broadband Internet. MLI's's unique technology, utilizing Ultra High Frequency ("UHF") spectrum, permits deployment of high-speed Internet, Phone and Data services to rural communities. The agreement covers an exclusive license in most countries in Asia and Central America and a non exclusive license in Europe, Canada, Africa and the United States.
IGEN's CFO Richard Gilbertson noted that "developed nations, especially urban areas, once enjoyed a significant communications and related business advantage. How could you run an international business from a remote location, without connectivity to the rest of the world? With reasonably priced connectivity, one can argue that rural areas and developing nations may soon have an economic advantage, as a place to do business. Two main reasons for this are minimal stranded costs and lower cost to operate in rural areas."
IGEN has identified a demand for Internet connectivity in the remote global areas and realizes broadband is now a recognized force. This is similar to the communications revolution brought about by introducing wireless telephone services to much of the world, previously unavailable through traditional wired technology. Broadband has permitted the proliferation of Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology. Whether by Internet telephony or wireless, telephone service is now available in much of the world. The stranded costs associated with this are significant. (A great lesson can be observed in the breakup of AT&T and the subsequent devaluation of its former assets.)
Broadband empowers people, whether students or retired, employed, or those seeking work; it empowers businesses - increases trading areas, broadens supply chains, identifies new opportunities; it is an increasingly important tool in government service delivery, in education, in health care, in public safety. Indeed, as smaller communities struggle to find their identity in increasingly urbanized societies, economic diversification, driven by Internet technologies is considered a key survival mechanism. Affordable high speed broadband is a basic requirement for all. IGEN sees the demand across all market niches for individuals, civic organizations, local small business, schools, medical institutions and commercial businesses.
It is important to note that the IGEN intends to use licensed UHF frequencies. This is a key concept in that UHF spectrum is free from the interference that characterizes unlicensed radio spectrum and contributes to the Company's high service quality. Note: each transmission installation covers a radius of ~55km or within a ten thousand square kilometer "footprint." It therefore serves not just the town or primary population centre, but the entire trading area. The market for the Company's services is clearly demonstrated. There is a pent-up demand for Internet services, especially in rural and remote areas where there is no real alternative to the Company's offerings. The Company's other service portfolio elements; telephony and video on demand are also clearly in demand. The technology has been beta tested including the presidential palace in INDIA and is currently operational at four other sites in Alberta, Canada with the trial sites showing that extremely high Network Reliability. Overall reliability is enhanced by: Provision of standby power for rack equipment, use of proven high quality units and components throughout the system, use of redundant or standby boards at remote sites, Backup AC power and use of national suppliers with regional warehouse of spares.
