IEEE-USA Commends Virginia Senators, Congressman for Helping to Keep Air Force Research Office in Northern Virginia

WASHINGTON, April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- IEEE-USA commends Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) for their work in helping to keep the Air Force Office of Scientific Research in Northern Virginia's technology corridor in Arlington.

The Air Force had been considering a move to Ohio, but IEEE-USA opposed it because it felt the change might reduce the Air Force's commitment to basic research.

During a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing Thursday, Kaine asked Deborah Lee James, secretary of the Air Force, about the service's relocation plans. James responded that "the evaluation is completed, and it's staying put."

"Sen. Kaine's commitment to basic research and innovation was on full display during the hearing," said 2013 IEEE-USA President Marc Apter, who lives in Alexandria, Va. "We commend him, Sen. Warner and Rep. Moran for their work on this."

The three members of the Virginia congressional delegation also wrote a January letter to Gen.
