Identity Guard Recognized as "Top of the Class" by Online Trust Alliance in the 2016 Online Trust Audit & Honor Roll
For the fifth consecutive year, Identity Guard has been recognized for its leadership in adopting and implementing best practices in data security, protection and privacy - the keystones of every online service, web site and mobile application
CHANTILLY, Va., July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Identity Guard®, a leading identity theft protection service from Intersections Inc. (NASDAQ: INTX), has been named in the Online Trust Alliance's (OTA) 2016 Online Trust Audit & Honor Roll for its excellent standards and leadership in consumer protection, data security and responsible privacy practice.
The 8th annual Online Trust Audit and Honor Roll, conducted by the OTA, analyzed 1,000 consumer facing websites and privacy policies including approximately 100,000 webpages and more than 50 million emails for this report. Key sectors that were audited include the Internet Retailer Top 500, FDIC Top 100, Top 100 Consumer Services, Top 100 Media/Content sites, government agencies and leading Internet of Things (IoT) providers, as well as OTA members. In order to qualify for Honor Roll status, an organization must receive a composite score of 80 percent or better and score at least 55 percent in three major categories; consumer protection, data security and responsible privacy practices.
Identity Guard and parent company Intersections Inc. were both recognized in a newly added designation, "Top of the Class." This title distinguishes companies that receive a total score of 95 percent or higher. Both companies were noted for their 5th consecutive year as Honor Roll recipients, among an elite group of 54 companies to achieve this goal.
"We are delighted to have Identity Guard recognized by the Online Trust Audit & Honor Roll for our commitment to IT security and privacy," said Johannes Roets, President. "In our constantly changing online world, the threat to identities, online security and privacy continue to drive Identity Guard's commitment to providing exceptional protection to its customers."
Only 50 percent of companies evaluated made the Honor Roll. Consumer services websites – any site that requires consumers to create an online account – ranked the highest with 72 percent of audited sites making the Honor Roll, a notable improvement over the 14 percent in 2015.
"OTA congratulates Identity Guard who has demonstrated excellence and leadership in consumer protection and industry collaboration," said Craig Spiezle, executive director of the Online Trust Alliance. "It's evident that many companies have moved beyond compliance, and are adopting meaningful self-regulation and data-stewardship practices. However, it is imperative that organizations double-down on security and privacy measures in this age of high-profile data breaches in order to maintain consumer trust and confidence."
The OTA Honor Roll is an independent online trust benchmark study, started in 2008 as an effort to drive adoption of best practices. Its objectives are to: 1) recognize leadership and commitment to the best practices which aid in the protection of online trust and confidence in online services; 2) enable businesses to enhance their security, data protection and privacy practices; 3) move from compliance to stewardship, demonstrating support of meaningful self-regulation; 4) promote security and privacy as part of a company's brand promise and value proposition.
