Meridian Resident to Help AARP Chart Course on Federal, State and Local Legislative Issues
BOISE, Idaho, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A local woman may be seeing a lot more of our nation's Capital over the next few years – Meridian resident, Lynn Young, has just been appointed to serve on AARP's National Policy Council to help make policy recommendations on federal and state issues. Young will also represent AARP across the nation and in Idaho regarding critical policy matters.
"Lynn has been an outstanding volunteer for AARP in Idaho, always bringing her expertise to the table to make a difference in the lives of the 50plus across the state," said Jim Wordelman, State Director for AARP in Idaho. "Now, as part of AARP's National Policy Council, she'll be able to share at a national level those skills that have served us so well in Idaho."
Young, who was selected from a nationwide pool of candidates for the position, spent much of her professional career working on utility issues, developing water and irrigation policy, and in the educational arena where she led efforts on accountability reporting for schools. She has also served on AARP's Capital City Task Force for the last five years and on various boards and committees where she serves as a consumer advocate on utility policy and practices in Idaho.
"This is an opportunity to be where the rubber hits the road regarding AARP policy," said Young. "It's an honor to serve in this capacity, on behalf of our members; I am looking forward to listening to them and bringing their thoughts and concerns to the issues that directly affect their lives."
As a member of the National Policy Council, Young will develop and make policy recommendations to AARP's volunteer Board of Directors regarding AARP's federal, state and local legislative and regulatory issues. Young is charged with ensuring public policies reflect members' concerns and interests, listening to members, conducting AARP policy forums, representing the Council before the public. Young will serve a two-year term and be eligible for two additional terms.
AARP is Idaho's largest membership organization with over 180,000 members.
