Hundreds expected at Flint class action lawsuit meeting Monday
DETROIT, Feb. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Prominent personal injury attorney Ven Johnson of Johnson Law, PLC and Attorney Steve Liddle of environmental class action law firm Liddle & Dubin, P.C. announced a federal class action lawsuit on behalf of victims of the Flint water crisis earlier this week. Flint residents are invited to attend an informational meeting Monday, February 29 at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of Lebanon, 4133 Calkins Rd, in Flint.
While other lawsuits, including those hoping to become class actions, have been filed, no case has been granted class action status yet by any state or federal court. This means that Flint residents who want to ensure their day in court should retain their own lawyer immediately. "The Defendants are likely to ask the Court to make these cases proceed individually, and not as a class action," says class action attorney Steven Liddle, who notes that hundreds of Flint residents have already contacted his firm. "Imposing liability on the state is difficult, but we are prepared to fight for our clients individually, if that is ultimately what is required."
In addition, this is the only lawsuit to name Veolia, a multinational environmental consulting firm whose February and March 2015 reports, commissioned by the City of Flint, declared the City's water safe to drink. Though Veolia found iron leaching from the pipes and should have known that lead was likely to be leaching into the water, they dismissed residents' concerns.
Attorney Ven Johnson, who grew up in Saginaw stated, "My heart goes out to all Flint residents who were betrayed by bureaucrats and the independent companies hired by these politicians. We'll fight for Flint residents until all guilty parties are held accountable."
