GROUP EXHIBITION: JUNE 2 - AUGUST 13, 2016, FRIDAY JUNE 3RD 5:00 - 9:00PM OPENING RECEPTION
PHILADELPHIA, May 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Hugo Galerie (NY), in conjunction with Stanek Gallery (PA), announced today Chuchoter À Travers La Rivière (Whispers Across the River), a group exhibition of painting and sculpture, at Stanek Gallery in Philadelphia, PA on view from June 2 through August 13. The dynamic exhibition aims to integrate contemporary European artists with Philadelphia's rich history and facilitate a conversation about the importance of uniting culturally to celebrate exceptional art. The show highlights the age-old love affair between America and Europe and the remarkable art that is conceived from the union of the two. The two galleries involved in the show are passionate about highlighting these extraordinary artists and introducing their work to collectors worldwide.
Hugo Galerie is a fine art gallery in New York City specializing in contemporary figurative painting and sculpture. Reco Sturgis, founder of Hugo Galerie, was previously director of Axelle Fine Arts Galerie. Axelle, founded in 1998 by Bertrand Delacroix, established itself as a crucial, and highly unique, part of the New York City art scene over the last twenty years. After Bertrand's passing in 2015, Axelle permanently closed. Hugo Galerie aims to keep Bertrand's legacy alive and continue the Axelle tradition by representing many of Axelle's international artists and seeking out new ones working in a similar aesthetic.
Many of Paris's most prestigious galleries are located along the Seine River surrounded by the city's most beloved monuments - the Notre-Dame, The Louvre, The Musée D'Orsay. The influences of the historical works inside these buildings echo in the paintings and sculptures of today's contemporary artists. In America, the whisper of Bertrand Delacroix's legacy is still heard. The show aims to uphold the tradition began by Axelle Fine Arts of bringing the work of European artists to America. This collection features work by Hugo Galerie artists, including Beth Carter, Marc Chalmé, Michel Delacroix, Albert Hadjiganev, Julia Levitina, and Xavier Rodés.
Stanek Gallery, located in the heart of Philadelphia's historic Old City, was founded by Katherine Stanek and Deborah Fine, both working artists of national and international acclaim, to reinvent the gallery experience and become a pre-eminent force in Philadelphia's art landscape. There will be an opening reception at Stanek Gallery on Friday, June 3.
