Hughes Demonstrates Global Leadership in Satellite Technology and Service Innovations at 13th Annual Seminar in Moscow
Broadband Leader Showcases Solutions for Government, Enterprise and Consumers/Small Business; Unveils Future-Proof High-Capacity, Dual Ka/Ku-band Platform
GERMANTOWN, Md., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's leading provider of broadband satellite networks and services, presented its cutting-edge technology and service innovations at its 13th annual technology seminar on May 12th in Moscow, entitled "Innovation is Why We Lead." Attendees included senior executives of many of the company's rapidly growing base of authorized service providers in Russia and the CIS countries, key government officials, and IT media representatives. The seminar featured an interactive audience forum about the latest Hughes innovations in dual Ka/Ku-band satellite and On-The-Move platforms, and discussions with key operator partners about new services and solutions to meet the growing and diverse market requirements in the region.
"We are proud to once again host many of the leaders in broadband services from this vital and resurgent market," said Dr. Arunas Slekys, vice president and general manager of Russia/CIS for Hughes. "As confirmed by COMSYS in 2009 and prior years, Hughes continues to lead the broadband satellite market worldwide and in the Russia/CIS region, where we now have shipped almost 30,000 terminals to over 20 successful service provider partners, representing more than 50% market share. This year's theme of leading through innovation is particularly appropriate because Russia is poised to expand into high-capacity, Ka-band satellite technology and services, and Hughes stands ready to join in, helping to realize this exciting vision of universally available broadband."
Satellite Home of the Future
Hughes discussed the technology behind the company's vision of the satellite home of the future which enables users to surf the web at high speed, watch high-definition movies, and make VoIP (Voice over IP) phone calls simultaneously, at download speeds of up to 20 Mbps. These capabilities are being designed into Jupiter™, Hughes next-generation, Ka-band, 100+ Gbps, high-throughput satellite system planned for launch in 2012 and offering 100 times the capacity of conventional Ku-band satellites.
Global Services and Solutions
Hughes owns and operates service businesses around the globe operating over 20 satellites, and in a series of customer video stories and displays highlighted the many benefits of broadband solutions for government and enterprises, ranging from digital media, to distance learning, to broadband-on-the-move on airplanes, trains, and ships. With over 2.2 million cumulative VSATs shipped to customers in more than 100 countries, and 320,000 units shipped in 2009 alone, double the competition, Hughes is the undisputed leader of the global VSAT business, consistently holding more than 50 percent market share according to the COMSYS VSAT 2009 report.
High Capacity, Dual Ka/Ku-Band Platform
Hughes unveiled the HN9400, the newest member of its market-leading family of routers, designed to deliver the maximum performance on today's Ku- or Ka-band platforms, while being future-proof for next-generation, high-throughput systems. The powerful HN9400 supports up to 60 Mbps of throughput on the forward channel and is fully compliant with IPoS/DVB-S2/ACM, the world's most successful satellite industry standard. Incorporating advanced adaptive LDPC coding on the return channel, the HN9400 provides up to 20 percent improvement in link performance, thereby enabling very efficient use of satellite capacity. Capable of operating in Ka- or Ku-bands and with upstream rates of up to 3 Mbps, the HN9400 is an ideal platform to deliver even the most bandwidth-demanding services on today's and future satellites.
Konstantin Lanin, head of the Hughes office in Moscow, commented, "Hughes broadband technology and services, combining the highest level of reliability and affordability, enable the company's customers in Russia and CIS to offer locally not only competitively priced but also technologically superior innovative solutions that guarantee unmatched user experiences. Our customers in Russia and CIS can be confident that the skilled Hughes local team is always at their disposal for comprehensive technical and program support contributing to their success in this market."
