GERMANTOWN, Md., May 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), a leading global provider of managed network services, today introduced the Hughes Software Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) solution for the public sector, joining its comprehensive suite of HughesON™ managed services for multi-site organizations.
"As government agencies pursue strategic modernization of their IT, they face several challenges, such as efficient cloud access, high application performance and availability, and increased number of devices being added," notes Zeus Kerravala, Founder and Principal Analyst with ZK Research. "SD-WAN is an excellent networking solution to meeting these challenges, and is already being successfully deployed by commercial enterprises delivering greater agility, lower costs and improved operational efficiencies. However, organizations with widely distributed branch sites will face unique deployment challenges rolling out an SD-WAN that a managed service provider can help overcome."
The Hughes Managed SD-WAN helps to overcome many current network challenges with significant benefits compared to legacy dedicated networks, including cloud readiness, high performance, higher network and application availability, increased network flexibility and cost savings. It leverages innovative Hughes ActiveTechnologies™ to transform ordinary broadband connections into enterprise-grade high performance WANs, including support for demanding applications such as VoIP and video. These include:
- ActivePath™, which incorporates powerful algorithms and techniques that exploit the use of multiple network paths, ensuring applications are delivered without interruption across the secure WAN regardless of degradation on a single path.
- ActiveQoS™, which continuously measures end-to-end capacity on broadband links, dynamically updating priority queues and traffic shapers to maximize each site's bandwidth usage. This results in dramatically improved performance for VoIP and video traffic across all outlets, especially those with lower bandwidth service.
- ActiveClassifier™, which automatically and dynamically classifies traffic based on flow behavior, eliminating the time-consuming process of manually configuring and maintaining rules to classify and prioritize specific applications required by other SD-WAN products. This optimization is particularly critical for real-time and cloud-based applications allowing this traffic to be prioritized over non-time sensitive data.
- ActiveCompression™, which reduces network congestion and improves application performance, especially at bandwidth-constrained sites.
As part of its managed solution, Hughes integrates cost-effective nationwide broadband access via multiple transport technologies, including cable, fiber, LTE and satellite, in secure yet flexible configurations to meet specific requirements at each agency site location.
"With organizations continuing to adopt new cloud-based and rich media applications, networks are facing more traffic and stress than ever before," said Mike Cook, executive vice president at Hughes. "The SD-WAN solution further expands our proven portfolio of HughesON managed services, delivering multi-site organizations optimized network performance by resolving bandwidth, availability and cloud access challenges— keeping applications up even if the primary network path fails."
The Hughes Managed SD-WAN incorporates best-in-class on premise and network based security capabilities. Security services are managed through Hughes Security Operations Center (SOC), staffed by experienced security professionals armed with state-of-the-art security tools.
The Hughes Managed SD-WAN solution is available now on the Networx Enterprise Contract. Hughes is a teaming partner of Level 3 Communications, a Networx prime contractor.
