Huawei Demonstrates Innovative Metro Vertical Solution, Leads Development of Metro WDM
ANAHEIM, Calif., March 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, a leading global ICT solution provider, today demonstrates its end-to-end innovative metro vertical solution at the 41th Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC). The solution uses three seamless access technologies including metro convergence and access, mobile backhaul, and data center interconnect (DCI).
With the rapid development of services such as 4K video, cloud services, and mobile Internet services, demands on metro convergence and access are increasing sharply. Huawei proposes a Twin-SSB-DMT technology doubling spectra efficiency of conventional SSB and also improves the single-wavelength rate from 100G to 200G using a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) compensation algorithm. This is the first single-wavelength and single-polarization 200G direct detection system in the industry. Without increasing the system cost, this technology doubles the spectral efficiency and achieves transmission without dispersion compensation up to a maximum of 80 km. The single-fiber capacity at a 50-GHz channel spacing reaches 16T.
In addition, with the development of mobile Internet, the demands on mobile backhaul are growing rapidly, and power consumption are also increasing as a result. At this OFC, Huawei demonstrates an ultra-broadband mobile backhaul solution that can work in outdoor temperatures ranging from –40°C to +90°C. By using polybinary multi-level modulation and bandwidth compression technique, Huawei has successfully demonstrated single-wavelength 100G over 10 km single-mode fiber transmission in scenarios where the end-to-end bandwidth based on the industry-level SFP optical modules is less than 4 GHz. Using these technologies, Huawei has the potential to achieve beyond 100G transmission using SFP optical modules consuming only 1.5 W power, greatly reducing fiber and maintenance costs for operators.
With the demands on the interconnection bandwidth for data center servers, racks, and equipment rooms increasing, enterprise users urgently need low-cost and high-density optical interconnect technology. To handle the signal fading caused by the intermodal dispersion of multi-mode fibers that are widely used in data centers, leveraging polybinary technique, Huawei implements single-channel 100G 200-meter multi-mode fiber interconnect based on a commercially available 850 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) for the first time in the industry. Furthermore, by using a low-complexity chip design, 3.5 W QSFP28 industrial encapsulation would be realized. In addition, this solution reduces more than 75% of parallel fibers, providing an efficient and high-density interconnect solution for enterprise users.
Serving customers with the most advanced transport network solutions, Huawei continues to provide technical innovations to meet customer requirements, and will cooperate with operators to accommodate larger bandwidth demands and shape the future for optical networks.
