Global Authentication Infrastructure and Digital Property Management Company Joins The FIDO Alliance
NEW YORK, March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HOYOS Labs, a leading global authentication infrastructure and digital property security company, and The FIDO Alliance, an industry consortium revolutionizing online security with open standards for simpler, stronger authentication, today announced that HOYOS Labs has joined The FIDO Alliance.
The FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) Alliance was formed to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication technologies, as well as the problems individual users face in creating and remembering multiple usernames and passwords. The Alliance is changing the nature of online authentication with standards that define an open, interoperable, and scalable set of mechanisms that supplant reliance on usernames and passwords to securely authenticate users of online services.
FIDO Alliance members commit to share technology and collaborate to deliver open standards for universal strong authentication. The Alliance enables methods adhering to FIDO standards to be interoperable, more secure, private, and easier-to-use than passwords. HOYOS Labs brings with it a history of standards development and expertise in end-to-end user authentication, biometrics and identity management to contribute to FIDO specifications.
"The FIDO Alliance welcomes HOYOS Labs and thanks them for their commitment to strong authentication that is interoperable, secure, and easy to use," said Brett McDowell, FIDO Alliance executive director. "Every organization that joins in the commitment to the FIDO ecosystem reinforces the value of a collaborative standards development. Hoyos Labs brings notable capability in biometric authentication and standards development as illustrated by their leadership in the development of the IEEE Biometric Open Protocol Standard (BOPS)."
"Both HOYOS Labs and The FIDO Alliance share an important common goal – to address the lack of interoperability among authentication devices and the problems people face on a daily basis when it comes to creating, remembering, and using countless usernames, passwords, PINS, and other log-ins," said Hector HOYOS, founder and CEO of HOYOS Labs. "The key to a successful identity assertion platform is to securely and conveniently tie a user's unique biometrics to his or her identity and the identity of his or her mobile device, while simultaneously protecting privacy. We bring incremental security in the way we define identity and our technology brings an additional layer of security, which benefits not only the members of FIDO, but also the general public."
HOYOS Labs' biometrics-based identity assertion platform (HOYOSID®) has been developed for both consumers and enterprises. In December 2014, HOYOS Labs released a free consumer identity assertion mobile app on both the App Store and Google Play, called 1UTM, which leverages a user's smartphone to capture an individual's unique biometrics to conveniently and securely log in to thousands of websites, with the eventual goal of eradicating usernames and passwords.
HOYOS Labs also has developed software for ATMs, which use biometrics and a smartphone in lieu of ATM cards and PINs to provide additional security and to protect against skimming. Banks can embed the HOYOS Labs software into their respective mobile banking apps and ATM software to seamlessly enable customers to use their biometrics – facial, periocular, voice, 4F, fingerprint, iris – to access bank accounts and withdraw and transfer money.
