Honey Holding Secures Another Retraction From American Honey Producers Association for Publishing False Statements
BAYTOWN, Texas, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Honey Holding I, Ltd dba Honey Solutions, an industrial honey processor, announced today that it has obtained a second retraction in less than one year from the American Honey Producers Association ('AHPA'). The AHPA posted an admittedly untrue and incorrect representation on its AHPA website stating that Honey Holding was criminally charged with involvement in actions related to the illegal transshipment of Chinese honey.
On or about March 7, 2015, the Pittsburgh Tribune published an article stating that Honey Holding had "knowingly sold tainted honey from China containing corn syrup or sugar" and that "the government had charged Honey Holding with tax evasion." Just two days later, on March 9, 2015, the AHPA republished on its website the Tribune article containing those libelous and defamatory statements. Honey Solutions requested that the Tribune and AHPA remove the incorrect statements. Consequently, the Pittsburgh Tribune voluntarily removed the erroneous and incorrect statements from their March 7th online article.
In turn, the American Honey Producers Association determined that the statements were simply not true and issued a retraction stating that "the government did not claim Honey Solutions purchased or sold 'tainted' or impure Chinese honey" and "the government did not charge Honey Solutions with tax evasion." Further, AHPA stated that their published statements "are not accurate. AHPA regrets these inaccurate statements. AHPA removed the article from its website, and is correcting and retracting the inaccurate statements with this posting." http://www.ahpanet.com/?page=LatestNews
Previously, on April 9, 2014, the AHPA had improperly stated on its website that Honey Holding had been criminally charged with illegally smuggling Chinese honey. When confronted with their untruthful representations, the AHPA promptly removed, retracted and apologized acknowledging that Honey Holding had never been indicted nor charged with illegal smuggling of Chinese honey into the U.S. http://www.ahpanet.com/?page=ArchivedApril2014&hhSearchTerms=%22smuggling+and+Chinese%22
In a memo to its customers, Honey Solutions stated that while it could not ascertain if the repeated pattern of published false statements about it were innocent or malicious in nature, Honey Solutions would continue to zealously protect the integrity of its good name while providing industry leading honey pricing in combination with GFSI excellence (BRC-Grade A), US Customs CTPAT partnership, 3rd party laboratory honey origin affirmation and consistent, timely product delivery.
