LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Homeless Health Care Los Angeles (HHCLA) will celebrate 30 years of providing health care, training programs and services that address the impact of homelessness in LA with an interactive fundraising celebration on Saturday, Feb. 11. All proceeds will go towards keeping the Los Angeles homeless community alive, healthy, and on a path to long-term stability and permanent housing.
"Thanks to the support from everyday heroes across this city, HHCLA has helped more than 170,000 of the most marginalized and impoverished homeless individuals and their families in Los Angeles over the last 30 years," said Mark Casanova, executive director of HHCLA. "It's sometimes too easy to ignore people who are homeless, but the truth is that this issue impacts the whole LA community. We need more Angelenos to step forward and become an HHCLA Hero to help address this issue and protect the future of LA for everyone."
Over the last 30 years, HHCLA has garnered a number of significant achievements, including:
- Trained and certified more than 800 individuals in an Overdose Prevention Program that teaches clients and agencies when and how to respond to someone who is overdosing; as a direct result of this program, more than 1,000 lives were saved with Narcan (naloxone).
- Helped 350 formerly homeless individuals find permanent housing each year.
- Distributed more than 1,000,000 sterile syringes and safely disposed of more than 800,000 syringes each year.
The event at Space Camp Gallery will celebrate these achievements and many others through an interactive and unconventional fundraiser that combines art, music and creativity. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will speak at the event and recognize HHCLA for its services.
In addition, the event will feature the works of a number of high-profile artists, including photographers Karchi Perlmann and Dietmar Kohl, collagist Adolph "Kush" Simpson, DJ Jahkova, DJ Jes Danz, musical trio El Haru Kuroi and production designer Jon Hutman.
