Holistic Vet Dr. Marcie Fallek says, "Homeopathy Last Hope For Dead Cat Walking."
Veterinarian releases new book about cat owner's determination to save Muggins from euthanasia.
NEW YORK, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In her forthcoming book Krishna's Flute: the Spiritual Journey of a Holistic Veterinarian, Dr. Marcie Fallek shares the heartwarming story of Muggins, a tuxedo cat. In Dead Cat Walking, a newly released echapter from the book, Dr. Fallek recounts Muggins' valiant fight for life after each vet who examined him saw no other option but euthanasia.

When Muggins arrived at her office, Dr. Fallek thought he might be dead. He should have been dead according to the "experts." Maria, his owner, called him "dead cat walking." With advanced kidney failure, and lungs filled with fluid from multiple tumors, Muggins had wasted away to 3 ½ pounds, and could barely breathe. Desperate, Maria decided to try one last thing, holistic medicine. According to Dr. Fallek, "Pet owners often turn to holistic approaches after everything else fails."
Even Dr. Fallek, who rarely does such a thing, suggested euthanasia. "It seemed like the humane thing to do." If it wasn't for Maria's determination, Dr. Fallek claims she wouldn't have tried saving Muggins. Maria had spent a small fortune on her dying cat and was prepared to bankrupt herself.
Rescued by Maria as a kitten in New York City's sewer system, Muggins had brightened her life. But now the traditional vets she'd taken Muggins to refused to treat him or wanted thousands of dollars to keep him breathing. Euthanasia would be a blessing. Dr. Fallek agreed.
Maria pleaded, "He wants to live, I know he does. And he has such a strong spirit. PLEASE let's try! I owe it to him. He has been there for me in every crisis of my life, and now I need to be there for him." She broke down crying. Dr. Fallek's heart melted. She knew what Maria was going through. "Ok Maria, I will do my best."
Taking Muggins in her arms, Dr. Fallek worried she'd made a foolish promise. In spite of having seen over and over again how holistic medicine worked when conventional medicine failed, this time Dr. Fallek was scared.
