Frebble uses tactile feedback, described as "doing for the sense of touch what computer graphics does for vision," says Frederic Petrignani, CEO of Holland Haptics. "Video calling has made the world a whole lot smaller, and now Frebble is here to add a new dimension to communicating over the Internet, by helping people connect in a tangible way."
Frebble has proven extremely popular with children from 5-12 years old. It is an excellent way for parents and grandparents who live far away or must travel frequently to literally keep in touch with the children in their lives – providing that love, support and interaction so essential to healthy development.
When the ergonomically-designed Frebble is squeezed, a corresponding Frebble held in a loved one's hand will gently apply pressure to the back of the hand, simulating what the user would feel if he or she were holding hands with someone next to them.
The company is seeking $50,000 in funding through Kickstarter to fund the initial production run. For a $99 pledge, backers will receive a set of two Frebbles. For more information, visit the Frebble Kickstarter page at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/396691740/frebble-hold-hands-online.
"The paradox of today's hyper-connected world is that somewhere along the way we neglected the most important human sensory connection: touch," explains Petrignani. Frebble seeks to remedy that issue. "It's that reassuring squeeze of the hand that can be the best feeling in the world, and Frebble makes that possible wherever you are."
