Hillsdale College Named 2016 'Best College Value' by Kiplinger's Personal Finance
Hillsdale provides "exceptional economic and academic value"
HILLSDALE, Mich., Dec. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hillsdale College has been named the No. 1 "Best College Value" for liberal arts colleges in the state of Michigan, according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance's list of the Top 300 Best College Values of 2016. The school earned the No. 21 national spot on the magazine's list of 100 best values in liberal arts colleges. This is the eighth consecutive year Hillsdale College has made Kiplinger's list, and the seventh year in a row it has been named No. 1 liberal arts college in Michigan.
"Hillsdale College ranks among the nation's best liberal arts institutions because of its firm commitment to the classical liberal arts and the success our students experience upon graduation," said Dr. David Whalen, provost of Hillsdale College. "A classical liberal arts education is best for students who seek to understand the highest and perennially compelling principals. Our College fosters an intellectual seriousness that fuels the pursuit of truth, prepares students for the challenges of modern life, and equips men and women for thoughtful, intelligent citizenship."
Introduced in 1998, the rankings highlight public and private universities and private liberal arts colleges that combine outstanding academics with affordable cost. In addition, Kiplinger has ranked the top 100 best values in each category.
Kiplinger assesses value by measurable standards of academic quality and affordability. Quality measures include the admission rate, the percentage of students who return for sophomore year, the student-faculty ratio and four-year graduation rate. Cost criteria include sticker price, financial aid and average debt at graduation.
"We start with a universe of 1,200 schools, so each school on our rankings, from No. 1 to No. 300, is a best value," said Janet Bodnar, editor of Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine. "Families can use the list as a starting point and then tailor it to each student's preference for such things as size, location, campus culture and major."
The complete rankings are now available online at Kiplinger.com/links/college and will appear in print in the February 2016 issue of Kiplinger's Personal Finance, on newsstands Jan. 5.
